  1. As we head towards 2024 and the new era at Bury Football Club, we reach out to update you around the future of the ‘Treasureline’ partnership with our friends and colleagues at National Youth & Community Development Association (NYCDA). Alongside this great news, there is a chance to win on our prize draw available to all new members who sign up by Sunday 10th December. Full details will be available at the bottom of the page. Many of you will fondly remember the old Treasureline lottery of yesteryear, which raised funds for the club in the form of a weekly lottery draw. That unfortunately almost completely disappeared due to initial management issues, and eventually the impacts of Covid which significantly impacted on the collection of door-to-door cash contributions. Industry experts, and Bury town centre based NYCDA, took on the remnants and refocused the old approach to ensure the Treasureline name was not lost. This way proceeds were continued to be generated, with Treasureline becoming part of their NYCDA Weekly Draw and those remaining contributors could continue to support their chosen cause. Going forward, fans and local people alike can join this draw, and in turn will be able to support this cause by becoming a participant in the NYCDA Weekly Draw. All proceeds generated are to be used to support the club’s activities across the Borough of Bury, in growing our men’s and womens’ youth and elite player development programmes. Activity behind the scenes is beginning to ramp up, so stand by to see and hear more and more on social media, at game days, at official club events, door-to-door campaigns, telesales activities, email campaigns, business initiatives and much more. Members can play for as little as £1 per week with the opportunity to win BIG!!! Fantastic cash amounts, including a main weekly £1,000 prize, as well as a £500 Rollover, which can rise to a huge £10,000, are up for grabs! Additional prizes ranging from £10 to £100 are also available every Wednesday. Click here to join Right now we are running a special prize draw incentive to join by midnight on Sunday 10th December. All fans who sign up to support the club in this way can enter the prize draw by clicking on the image and inserting ‘BURYFCXMAS’ as the promo code when joining! Prizes including a signed 2023/24 home shirt, a pair of tickets into hospitality and a number of items of official club merchandise. For information including how to join and weekly results, as well as some insights as to where the proceeds are used and the kind of work this partnership will continue to support, please take a look at the microsite HERE. #ShakersTogether | #BuryFC | #Treasureline View the full article

  7. It was disappointment in Burscough for The Shakers on Saturday, falling to defeat to bottom of the table Skelmersdale United. On day where it just didn’t seem to click for Dave McNabbs men, Pascal Chimbonda’s Skelmersdale side made sure that they took their chances and were fortunate enough to gain a goal courtesy of a rare Harry Wright error. Skem Chairman Frank Hughes described to us on Playing Away how there was a False bottom in our Division and his team showcased why they perhaps should not be written off as relegation fodder. Dave McNabb had a message for all the fans as he spoke to our Match Reporter Adam Clark following Saturday’s game, he also took to x.com to show his appreciation for the support shown to the team. You can see his post match interview below. Massively disappointing performance and result today and as the manager I take full accountability for it. We let the fans down who were excellent again and absolutely deserved better all round I know it’s frustrating but stick with us. 23 cup finals to go — David McNabb (@davidmcnabb82) November 25, 2023 We however can’t dwell on the defeat for too long, as we are straight back into league action this coming Tuesday for our re-arranged fixture against newly promoted Pilkington FC. After a strong start to life in the NWCFL Premier Division following promotion from the Division One North as champions last term, Pilkington have struggled in recent weeks with four losses , one win and a single draw in their last six outings. A 4-3 win at the Acroframe Stadium against Skelmersdale being the only victory in that spell, Pilks were defeated by Chadderton over the weekend and they sit 16th going into the game, on 29 points from 23 games. The full match information pack can be found below. In Opposition – Pilkington The club was established in 1938 and joined both the Liverpool Business Houses League and the St Helens Combination. The name originates from the Pilkington glass factory in St. Helens. They later became members of the Liverpool County Football Combination. In 1980 the club joined Division Two of the Mid-Cheshire League. When Division Two was abolished in 1983, they became part of the league’s single division. The club finished bottom of the league in 1986–87. A new second division of the Mid-Cheshire League was formed in 1987 and Pilkington became members of Division One. However, after finishing bottom of the league in 1988–89 and 1990–91, they were relegated to Division Two. The club were Division Two runners-up in 1997–98, resulting in promotion to Division One. They finished bottom of the division in 1999–2000, but were reprieved from relegation after another team left the league. The following season saw the club win the Liverpool Junior Cup, a trophy the club won again in 2004–05. In 2010–11 Pilkington were runners-up in Division One, missing out on the title on goal difference. The division was renamed the Premier Division in 2014. The club finished bottom of the Premier Division in 2014–15 and were relegated to Division One. They won the league’s Presidents Cup in 2016–17, and after finishing as runners-up in Division One in 2017–18, the club were promoted back to the Premier Division. The following season saw them win the Premier Division title, resulting in promotion to Division One North of the North West Counties League. They were Division One North champions in 2022–23 and were promoted to the Premier Division. The club originally played at Crossley Road, before moving to Ruskin Drive at the beginning of the 1948–49 season. Their home ever since, the complex was redeveloped from 2016 to incorporate an astro-turf pitch amongst additional upgraded facilites to cater for all sports including space for other local football clubs, as well as rugby, cricket and tennis. The ground is shared with other local side, St Helen’s Town AFC. Tickets & Admission General sale tickets are available online HERE, which includes hospitality tickets in the Main Stand. 8. This weekend, attention turns to Cheadle Town Stingers, in a tough fixture away from home. Our 3-1 victory in the League last weekend against Fleetwood Town Wrens Ladies was another fine performance by the team, making it our fourth consecutive win in all competitions, and our third league win of this season’s campaign. Our next fixture is going to take place this weekend against Cheadle Town Ladies in the North West Women’s Regional League. Our opponents are in fine form, and currently sit at the top of the league table with 21 points, after 9 games. They have a record this season of 7 Wins and 2 losses, demonstrating their strengths this campaign. The fixture is set to be a tough competition against the league leaders, however, due to good form coming into the match, the team are hopeful to come away with a positive result. The team have trained well this week for it and new players are really gelling so Jarrett’s side are full of confidence. The match is taking place on Sunday 26th November, with the game kicking off at 2pm. The venue for the fixture is on Park Road in Cheadle, at the home ground of Cheadle Town. The weather looks set to be dry but chilly, so come down and support the team and wrap up warm! 12. We’ve had a busy few weeks despite the lack of home games, and thought it would be a useful time to summarise a few of the new faces around the club. We wanted to begin a process of introducing new people into the club this season as we look to build up and work our way up the football pyramid. That process is now underway. Dave McNabb joined us as first team manager in October. He is supported by: Tim Lees – Assistant Manager Jack Hook – Coach Sam Ashton – Goalkeeper Coach Chris Watts – Analyst Darren Davies – Opposition Scout Aidan Bowe and Alan Raw continue to support the team as physios. We will establish a ‘fan forum’ to allow supporters to hear from Dave and Tim in due course. We also have volunteers who are intermittently involved, some working with us as part of their university studies. Stuart Wright has joined as full time stadium manager. He has previous experience in the role at Oldham Athletic as well as experience in security roles at other organisations. He will primarily be supported by Dave Cheshire who many of you will know has been working at the ground most days for the past eighteen months. Neil Sears is currently supporting us as in the club secretarial team after qualifying with a degree in football business and law, whilst he looks for a full time paid position at a professional football club. We are also in discussions with someone to assist with our bookkeeping on a part time basis and hope to finalise that appointment within the next week or two. As previously announced Jon Newby has already joined the Football Club Board and has a remit of helping the the first team manager develop an appropriate strategy for recruitment and retention of players as we move through the pyramid with its different demands and challenges at each level. These are all costs borne by the football club, which will professionalise the club, relieve pressure on volunteers and reduce costs within the company which owns the stadium. We would again like to acknowledge the efforts of all of the volunteers who have rebuilt the club since 2019, it really couldn’t have been achieved without the hard work of everyone involved. You have put us in the position that we are in today. #BuryFC | #PartOfIt View the full article
  13. After two weeks of cup football, that saw us exit the FA vase after a tough battle with Whickham in the North East and progress in the Macron Cup following penalty shootout heroics from goalkeeping coach and reserve keeper Sam Ashton, we return to NWCFL premier league action this Saturday as we face Skelmersdale United away at The Community Ground in Burscough. Following the Ramsbottom game we were thrilled to receive a note from The ‘Rams’ Club Secretary, Tony Cunningham, praising the club and our fans on the impeccable behaviour shown by all as they managed a larger than average crowd. We have included the note below and would like to thank our travelling fans for being a credit to the club. “On behalf of everyone at Ramsbottom United, can I thank all the Bury supporters who came to the game on Saturday for their impeccable behaviour. It was a pleasure to host such a large crowd, and the Bury fans helped the day to run smoothly, whilst creating a great atmosphere. The attendance was well in excess of our usual, and even bigger than we had anticipated, and it has helped us to focus on certain aspects that we need to improve on, which we will. It was a wonderful afternoon, and the Bury supporters deserve much praise, and are a credit to Bury Football” Highlights from Saturday’s drama laden Macron Cup tie at the Riverside Stadium . Turning our attention to the weekend we meet a Skelmersdale side that are very much going through a period of transition and transformation following their demotion from the NPL last term. Despite their mid-table finish, the Community Ground did not meet the ground grading requirements for the league and they returned to the NWCFL after just one season in the NPL. With former Premier League defender Pascal Chimbonda coming in at the helm just lasst month, Skem have seen a raft of personnel changes on the field and are yet to find a foothold in the league managing only two wins and two draws in their opening 23 league fixtures, leaving them sitting bottom of the table on eight points and cut adrift from the teams above. In the debut episode of ‘Playing Away’ this week, we caught up with Skelmersdale Chairman Frank Hughes, to discuss all things Skem and the upcoming fixture. You can watch the first episode below. Tickets – ADVANCE TICKETS ONLY We are handling ticketing for travelling fans for this game and tickets are available here Adults – £7 Concessions – £5 (U16s & Over 65s) Only 800 are available, so when they are gone there is no more. 18. Last weekend, the team were victorious with a 4-1 win over local rivals Rochdale to progress to the semi-finals of the Manchester FA Women’s Challenge Cup. This weekend, attention turns to Fleetwood Town Ladies. In our opponents’ last league fixture, they were also victorious 4-1 against Salford City FC, with mixed form throughout the season so far. They currently sit 7th place in the league table with 4 wins, 1 loss and 4 draws. The team look to maintain momentum following our progression in the Manchester FA Women’s Challenge Cup. The team sit 9th place in the league standings on 7 points, with a positive result seeing a further stretch made away from the bottom of the league. Bury have won 4 and drawn 1 in the last 5 matches in all competitions. Last season, both teams played each other in the league cup and the game was a draw after 90 minutes, with Bury losing out on penalties. This time around, the ladies look to get a result and produce a solid performance in the league to make up for last season’s upset. The game will kick off at 2pm, taking place at Kearsley Academy in Bolton due to a waterlogged pitch at Gigg Lane. Let’s hope the team can produce a solid performance and pick up another victory! 23. Tonight’s game at Gigg Lane against Pilkington has been called off as the pitch is waterlogged. Persistent spells of rain throughout the day have put paid to the game, with the ground staff facing a battle to manage the amount of rain, on top of an already saturated playing surface, which left standing water in many areas. 25. On Remembrance Sunday we remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country, sovereign, families and loved ones in order that we may live our lives in freedom and safety. It is important for us all to reflect on the lives lost, the families and friends affected and those who were injured whilst serving their country. As a mark of respect today we take a moment to remember all those brave men and women who have lost their lives in many conflicts and wars around the world and in service to our country at home. We owe them so much in countless ways. Not only do we remember the armed services, the Army, Navy and RAF, but also the emergency services, Police, Fire and Rescue, and Ambulance Services and all those who work within the NHS and social care. We witnessed first hand the importance of those services in keeping us safe during the recent pandemic. We are a town with a proud history of association with the Lancashire Fusiliers and the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers and we are proud tocontinue that tradition here at Gigg Lane. It is four years since we were last able to gather here and remember together but today we continue the tradition of trooping the colour with Lt. Colonel Mike McDonald, Sergeant Geoff Baines (Lancashire Fusiliers Bugler), Bob Barton (Lancashire Fusiliers Standard Bearer), Janice Lloyd (Royal British Legion Standard Bearer), Llea McGowan (Royal Regiment Fusiliers Standard Bearer), Kevin Rowe (Antrim Standard Bearer), Roy Counsell (BOBVA Standard Bearer), Jacko Pearce (RAF Standard Bearer). We also welcome as our guests tonight veterans from the Army Royal Regiment of Artillery, 1st Royal Horse Artillery, Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers, Royal Army Ordinance Corps, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force, Royal British Legion and widows of serving personnel who have served our country. We also remember those within the Bury FC family who have passed away since we were last able to gather and remember in November 2018, named below. All those we have lost are missed by their fellow supporters, family and friends. Every one is a seat left empty, a scarf unworn, a missed click of the turnstile but they have all left a legacy to this club that will be enjoyed by future generations of Shakers. Order of Service At approx 19.30 players and officials to assemble in the tunnel, ahead of service. Ceremony party to enter pitch and assemble in centre circle. Lieutenant Colonel Retired Mike McDonald will carry on the match ball, and Mr Steve Fitt the wreath. Mr Steve Fitt will organise the Standard Bearers. Mr Brian White, Mr Maurice Dickson and Mrs Cara Taylor will announce the Ceremony party onto the pitch. “They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old, age shall not weary them, nor years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.” At this time, the names of the Bury FC family who have passed away will be displayed on the scoreboard. The Last Post will be played by Sergeant Geoff Baines. Standards lowered. The Reveille will then be played and standards raised. Mr Maurice Dickson will then say, “When you go home, tell them of us and say for your tomorrows we gave our today.” The attendees will then leave the pitch Losses in the Bury FC Family since 2018 Jimmy Allen Colin Atkinson John Atkinson Ken Ash Phil Astley Brian Bancroft Brian Barlow Bob Bell Colin Bell Derek Bentley Alice Berry Geoff Bernstein Anthony Boardman Eric Brand Stuart Brand Cliffe Broome Neville Brooks Peter Brown Horace Brown Eric Brand Margret Burke Tom Burke Paul Carter Mark Crossley Alan Caulderbank Bill Caulder Geoffry Cawte Eddie Colquhoun Fred Cowburn Ellie Clegg Monica Cullen Donald Cunliffe Alex Dawson James Dean Matt Durnam Ann Eckersall Dave Evans Douglas Evans Arthur Evans Paul Evans Martin Farnworth Mandy Freeman Martyn Forrest Michael Garrett Bob Gerrard Dave Giffard Malcolm Gray Alan Green Tom Harkinson Henry Hayes Will Hayhurst Roger Heywood Margaret Holden Brian Howcroft Paul Hince Derek Holt Edmond Howard Mick Hoyle Maria Hurst Kenny Hulme Preston Hulse Isla Hutton David Isherwood Lenny Johnrose John King Gerald Lewis Jacqueline Melia Peter Melling Minty Macy Stefan Madej Miriam Makin Gill Mansley Paul McCormick Jack Metcalfe Derek Middleton Dave Morley Noel Nash Sandra Nugent Philip Pidluski Mike Pinder Holly Prince Stanley Reynolds Peter Rigby Johnny Robinson Jim Royds Mark Saunders Ian Scholes Colin Slater MBE Arthur Smith BEM Barry Simpson Raymond Smith John Stansfield John Stembridge David Swain Peter Swann Steve Taylor Ella Warburton Richard Warburton Stan Warburton Hilary Walton Jane Weedon Harry Wilkinson Tom White Dave Wylie #ShakersTogether | #BuryFC | #LestWeForget View the full article
