  4. We face yet another tough test with this visit to Irlam, but go into the game buoyed up by a stunning 4-0 performance against Colne. It was a day on which our skill was backed up by grit and determination. Everyone – not least manager Dave McNabb – was embarrassed by the abysmal midweek performance against Litherland REMYCA. So we’re back on track for our vital December run of fixtures. We were without suspended Ben Hockenhull, but were boosted by the last-minute signing of tough-tackling Aaron Chalmers. He not only strengthened the defence but popped the ball into the Colne net in a goalmouth scramble. Ben is available for the Irlam game and popular striker Djavan Pedro – also on five yellows – will play. But DJ will miss Saturday’s home match against Abbey Hey. Losing twice in four games shook us all after going 21 without a single defeat. So the convincing victory against Colne restored morale around the club – along with seeing Nicky Adams back in a Bury shirt. Up the Shakers!! In Opposition – Irlam This is a club with a long and distinguished history. They held us to a 2-2 draw at Gigg Lane back in August and are currently 11th in the league. They finished last season in 13th place. Irlam will be determined to build on a run of decent results. They have lost only one of their last six games, won two and drawn three – including 1-1 result at home against leaders Ramsbottom United just over a week ago. Last season we beat them 3-0 at home but lost 1-0 away – a defeat which cost us in our bid for promotion. Admission & Tickets There are NO advance tickets for this game, with pay on the gate facilities will be available with payments taken with either cash or card. Adults – £7 Concessions – £4 (Over 60 / Under 16) Under 16s – £2 Under 11s – FREE Programmes – £2 Irlam are asking supporters to arrive at the ground as early as possible. 11. We are delighted to confirm the signing of centre-back Aaron Chalmers, who joins us from Stalybridge Celtic, subject to NWCFL approval. The 33-year-old, came through the ranks at Oldham Athletic, making it through to the first team to make two appearances. After spells at Macclesfield Town and Hibernian, he dropped down the leagues to join Mossley in 2010, where he made 44 appearances and scored once. In 2011, he had a loan stint at Droylsden before moving to Stockport Sports for a season, later signing with Southport. During his time at Southport, he made 29 appearances and had another loan spell at Droylsden. In 2013, he spent a season with Ashton United before starting the 2014 season at Hyde and concluding it at Northwich Victoria. A productive stint followed in 2015 with Stalybridge Celtic, where he amassed 89 appearances. He then rejoined Ashton United, moved to Buxton, and ultimately became captain at Prestwich Heys. During his time at Adie Moran Park, he was a standout player, starting nearly every match and collecting the Player of the Year award last May, before re-joining Stalybridge in the summer, and has made 20 appearances to date this season. Credit: Phil Smith Upon signing for the club, Aaron said: “It was a hard choice to leave Stalybridge. I’ve had two spells there and loved every bit of it, but after speaking to Dave about the ambition of the club and what he wants from me. It’s the right move for me. “The club are going up and not stopping anytime soon. I’m a winner I want to win at anything and everything I do. That’s just the way I am. I’m looking forward to helping the lads and the club get that promotion – that’s my main priority hopefully with a win on Saturday.” Manager, Dave McNabb added: “Aaron is top quality centre half with real defensive instincts. He’s a leader and organiser with an excellent CV and background. He’s played much higher up the pyramid but also knows these levels too. “Aaron will really help us defensively and will work with some of the younger players to help improve them too.” View the full article

  14. We welcome Colne to Gigg Lane determined to bounce back from our disappointing start to a month which may well prove vital in our bid for promotion. That 3-1 defeat at Litherland REMYCA was hard to take, but hey! – football’s always about a new start with the next match. We beat Colne 2-0 at their place at the end of October, with second-half goals from Ben Hockenhull and Connor Pye. Since then, we’ve won two and lost two and Colne have won two, drawn one and lost one. Losing twice in four games has come as a massive shock after going 21 without a single defeat. A convincing victory against Colne is clearly well within our capabilities, and would give morale a massive boost. So we need lots of fans in good voice to flock to Gigg Lane and get behind the lads. Please come on down – and come on you Shakers!! View Wednesday’s post match reaction from Dave McNabb and Cam Fogerty below. In Opposition – Colne All credit to Colne for their performance in the last four games, after a dreadful start to their second season following relegation from the Northern Premier’s West Division. They currently languish in 23rd place in the table, with just 13 points from 24 games. The Shakers are in 3rd place, with 52 points from the same number of games. Last season, we beat them 3-1 away and 4-1 at home, and they finished in 10th positon – seven places below us. Colne was founded in 1996, and just 20 years later – on 7 May 2016 – clinched the North West Counties Premier Division championship. A single goal in their last game of the season at 1874 Northwich was all they needed, and they finally scored it late in the second half. On the Day & In the Ground Our Matchday @ Gigg guide is available to read to find out everything you need to know going on in and around the ground. Match Tickets can be bought online HERE. Liam Robinson will join us in Starkies Lounge, he made over 200 appearances for the Shakers during the late 80s & early 90s. Match Coverage & Live Stream If you are unable to make it to the action at Gigg Lane, we’ll have all the live coverage across our media platforms. Live Stream: An international stream will be available, for this fixture. Not available in the UK Live stream tickets will be available to purchase very soon from our ticket webpage HERE. 19. Objective achieved! We prepared for this game by bouncing back in style from the defeat at Lower Breck by beating Burscough 4-2 away. The first 45 minutes were probably the best we’ve played all season, even counting the stunning 8-0 defeat of Longridge Town. So we travel once again to Merseyside with heads held high. But it was disappointing to present Burscough with a gift goal early in the second half, and after that it was a struggle. Quality told in the end, and overall it was another great day for us. It was good to welcome forward Pat Jarrett back into the team for his first league start for the club, but sad to say farewell to experienced Lewis Alessandra who played his final game at the weekend. If you hadn’t already seen, experienced midfielder Nicky Adams re-joined the club for a fourth spell over the weekend, and subject to paperwork being approved, he will be avaliable for selection this week. Now it’s onward and upward as we begin a busy and demanding December placed third in the league and with games in hand. First call is at Litherland REMYCA. We beat them twice last season – 4-2 at home and 6-0 away. Either score would suit us this time round – it’s the points that matter. Come on you Shakers!! Saturday’s highlights and interviews are available to watch below: In Opposition – Litherland REMYCA We can expect a tough game at REMYCA, who are currently 19th in the league with 26 points from 23 matches. They’ve won two and lost three of their last six games, including a 4-0 home defeat at the hands of top-of-the-table Ramsbottom United. The club’s goal is a mid-table position, and they have a clear policy of giving high-flying teams like the Shakers a thorough examination. They greatly value their place in the NWC premiership, and after several seasons flirting with relegation appointed one of their own players – popular striker Colin McDonald – as manager. That was four years ago, they and he are still here, and last season finished 12th. Tickets Tickets are available to purchase, via Litherland’s ticketing provider, Skiddle. Click here to purchase. Adult £8 | Concessions £5 | U12s (with adult) Free Travel & Parking Ground: Litherland Sports Park Address: Boundary Road, Litherland, Liverpool Postcode: L20 9JR Driving: End of M57/M58 along Dunningsbridge Road towards Docks, Turn Right at Junction of Bootle Golf Course on the Right hand side into Boundary Road, 2nd turning on the left into sports park. 20. Last week we had the pleasure of hosting two football clubs from Chicago on behalf of FTI Sports Ltd – Lindenhurst Area Soccer Club and Chicago KICS Youth Soccer Club. Hiring Gigg Lane for training sessions, the children loved playing on the pitch and watching from the stands the parents loved hearing the story of Bury’s return to football. Following the session they flooded into the club shop to buy memorabilia of their trip from football tops and hoodies to pin badges and an abundance of our scarves and bobble hats to take back to Chicago for the winter. In the days that followed they played fixtures vs our Under 13s, Under 12s and Under 10s A & B teams, with some of the games streamed across the pond! Replays of these exhibition fixtures, can be watched here. View the full article

  23. We are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Nicky Adams from Radcliffe, and with it Nicky starts a fourth spell at Gigg Lane. The 38-year-old began his footballing career with the Shakers, after coming through the club’s youth setup in the early 2000s. He made his first team debut in October 2005 in a 1-0 win against Darlington, in what was a debut not only for him but the first game in charge for the then manager, Chris Casper. Nicky scored the only goal of the game, which ended up being the first of 14 in his first spell at the club. Casper spoke highly of Adams after his debut: “I’m made up for young Nicky Adams, as he has really worked hard on his game. He’s run himself into the ground for the team, and he took the goal well.” Adams signed for Leicester City in 2008 This kind of performance was typical of the player, both on and off the field. His character was infectious, resonating with those in the stands and in the changing room-a-like. His abilities were noticed by a host of clubs and his first spell at Gigg Lane came to a close with a move to League One-side Leicester City in 2008. He made his first return in May 2014 following spells at Brentford, Rochdale, Crawley Town and Rotherham United. This second stint only lasted a season, but his first promotion as a Shaker came with it, earning a top-three spot on the last day of the 2014/15 season at Tranmere. Adams’ third spell began in the summer of 2018 when he joined a newly-relegated League Two side under the stewardship of club legend Ryan Lowe. Nicky was the captain, leading by example and despite fantastic displays on the pitch, and another promotion to League One, (again at Tranmere), turmoil off the pitch spiralled the Shakers supporters into despair. We left the Football League in the summer of 2019 after 125 years of membership. Nicky spoke out on social media about the behind the scenes issues (left), but this was unable to prevent the downturn in club’s plight, with all players and staff eventually leaving the club after pay had been withheld for months. Moving on again, Nick headed back to Northampton for a second spell, before returning north to Boundary Park and Oldham Athletic. Recently he joined Radcliffe, and helped guide them to promotion last season as Boro hit the National League North for the first time. He reached 100 appearances for Boro earlier this month, and has over 750 appearances across an extensive 22-year career to date. To date Nicky has made 191 Bury appearances, scoring 19 goals. We are sure you will be looking forward to welcoming him back to Gigg Lane once again. The agreement is subject to FA and league approval, with Nicky going into Dave McNabb’s squad this week once this has been confirmed. For more on Nicky’s arrival, head to the socials X / Facebook / Instagram To get your tickets to watch Nicky back at Gigg Lane this December, these can be secured now by clicking below: View the full article
