  1. We’re back home after a three-week break, after wrapping up two amazing away wins in St Helens. Now, we’re all set to keep our winning streak going and make it 12 on the bounce. We want to give a big shoutout to the fans who made the trip down the M62 two weekends in a row to cheer on the Shakers. You guys were incredible, creating that atmosphere that really pumps up the lads on the pitch! A win would really crank up the pressure on our promotion rivals, Lower Breck, as they face FC Isle of Man in Douglas in the late Saturday evening kick off, we’ll be streaming the game live in Starkies from 6pm. So, get down to Gigg, be loud, be proud and roar us on to another victory and let’s make up for that frustrating 4-4 draw in our first league game of the year. You’ll be treated to some fantastic entertainment at halftime, with choirs and two solo singers brought together by our friends at English National Opera. Let’s show them how we support our team: UP THE SHAKERS!!! In Opposition – Squires Gate This will be a tough encounter as we face a team fighting for their premier division lives. An away victory over FC Isle of Man on March 8th gave their fans a glimmer of hope, but the facts stare them in the face. Over the season so far, Gate have collected only 28 points from 42 matches, leaving them at the bottom of the table. That win in Douglas was the only one in their last six games, along with two draws and three defeats. But Gate are led by a shrewd manager in Luke Evans, who’s been at the Brian Addison Stadium since 2019. They’ll be well organised and hard to break down. On the Day & In the GroundOur Matchday @ Gigg guide is available to read to find out everything you need to know going on in and around the ground. Tickets are on sale now, via our ticketing page on our website. Pay on the day is also available in the Main & South Stands. Jason Jarrett will be our guest for the afternoon, hear him in Starkies from 1:20pm. Jacket Potato van ‘Get Stuffed’ will return to the car park for this game, open from 12:30pm. Starkies BarBefore kick-off: Starkies will be open at the normal time of 12.30pm for supporters to access from the Manchester Road End entrance before kick-off. Starkies Pass ticket holders will be permitted access at any time in line with their purchase. 6. We are delighted to announce that we will be bringing the prestigious ‘Manchester Remembers’ charity football match and fundraising day to Gigg Lane this year for the very first time. Established by Aaron Lee & Paul Corrigan, in 2020, the successful event has raised over £100,000 for a number of charities linked to the Manchester Arena attack in 2017. Previously hosted by Manchester City FC and Oldham Athletic, we are extremely pleased to be holding this year’s event at Gigg Lane, the home of Bury Football Club and we are working in collaboration with Aaron, Paul and Bury Council to make it happen. Manchester Remembers will be held on June 14th 2025, with Sam Allardyce and Peter Reid will again be managing this years ‘Legends’ and ‘Celebrity’ teams respectively and already they have some big names who will be in attendance on the day, with more details and ticketing information coming very soon. Bury FC Head of Operations, Casey Lynchey said: “We have been in conversation with Aaron & Paul for some time and have recently managed to pull everything together to enable us to host the event at Gigg Lane this summer. “Their story is compelling and the relentless work they have done to raise so much for the various charities is remarkable. We couldn’t be prouder at Bury FC to be bringing the event to the town and along with the support of our staff and volunteer team and Bury Council, we’ll work hard behind the scenes to make sure it is a success and can raise as much as possible for such an important cause.” View the full article
  7. Bury won 2-0 away at Pilkington as the Shakers look to continue their push for the title, Cam Fogerty and Lewis Byrne spoke to the club to give us their thoughts on today’s game. Cam Fogerty: “I thought we were really poor. First half, second half we gave it more of a go. I think first half it felt like they had more energy. They were a yard quicker than us and they had the majority of the momentum, I’d say up until about the 30th minute. We had a few good chances but second half I thought we were much better, got in their faces, pressed well. That’s where the goals came from, playing with intensity and tempo. I’m just relieved to get the three points because it was a tough day. They made it hard for us.” He then spoke about the frustration of missing so many chances in the 1st half with him saying “Yes and no because we made a lot of chances, but I don’t feel like we deserved scoring them. I felt like Pilkerton gave us a great game first half and they came out with a lot of energy. For large periods of it, they were the better team so for us to go in 1-0 or 2-0 up would have been a bit of a disservice to Pilkerton. But second half, I think we thoroughly deserved it.” Lewis then spoke about his goal today “Yes, definitely good to get on the score sheet but I feel like I could have done a little bit more today with the way it went. It wasn’t much of a game of football; I didn’t feel like the pitch didn’t really allow it. It was just a bit of a fight. But yes, obviously I’m glad to get the goal for the club.” He then spoke about how it was important to get onto the score sheet as quick as possible in the second half, with him saying “Yes, of course, I think the main thing was just to be battling the first and second balls and obviously be more in the faces. I feel like we let them have the ball a little bit too much in the first half. As soon as we did start getting in the faces and obviously didn’t let them have a second, that was when the chances all started coming.” Cam then spoke about whether there was any nerves when they were 1-0 up with him saying “You know what, at 1-0 I felt really comfortable. It was at 0-0 where I felt these could nick one here and if we go in at the break, 1-0 down, then it would be an uphill battle obviously. But at 1-0 I felt really comfortable and obviously they got the sending off which made it easier for them. Although I did think they played better with ten men, surprisingly. When Rusty scored, we knew that’s lights out then, game over, which obviously is a relief. Now it’s all eyes on next Saturday for another win.” Cam then looked ahead to next week game vs Squires Gate at Gigg Lane “Well, if we would have played, we would have won. They’re still fighting to stay up, so it’ll be a tough game, but we’re at a gig. We know how well we can play at a gig. We’re unbeaten this season. I don’t envisage us losing there or dropping points there for the rest of the season. I think we’ll put them out.” View the full article
  8. Bury won 2-0 over Pilkington as they continue their push towards the NWCFL title, Manager Dave McNabb spoke to the club to give us his thoughts on the game. Dave McNabb: “I thought the first half was horrendous, if I’m being honest. No patterns of play, we looked nervous, we looked like we didn’t want to get on the ball and be brave with it. That being said, we missed three edge chances, we hit the bar with a bit of a lucky overhead kick from Bobby [Carroll]. We could have been 3-0 up, but we wouldn’t have deserved it. I think we’ve got to be better in terms of the way we impose ourselves, we’ve got to start the game a little bit quicker. Second half, they took everything on board, it wasn’t brilliant and scintillating football by any stretch, but the intensity went up a couple of levels. The press, the ugly stuff of the game, running, competing, winning first and second balls was much better. Sometimes that’s all it takes, sometimes you can’t play brilliantly well, especially at this point in the season. So, yes, really pleased to get the three points and we go again next week.” Next Dave spoke about changes to todays starting 11 with Nicky Adams replacing Josh Gregory as well as Louis Jeanne absence with him saying “Josh hasn’t been too well, just a few little, tiny issues, nothing major. I think if we really needed to push him, if we didn’t have different options, then he could have started today, which is why he was on the bench. I just felt he’s played an awful lot of football, he’s come in on the back of a couple of long-term injuries and he’s played an awful lot of football, so we didn’t want to risk him getting injured and being missing for two or three weeks. He’s been a massive part of what we’ve achieved over the last few weeks, so that was that. In terms of the bench, obviously with having Josh on the bench, being able to play both centre-half and midfield, I just felt, depending on how the game panned out, we might need Connor. That was just being a little bit more attacking in terms of options on the bench.” Dave then spoke about the aims for the rest of the season as we entered the final 5 games of the season, he said “I don’t think any of them were easy, I don’t think there were any games that were easy. We know that Bury is a scalp to any team, so teams step up when it’s difficult. No-one’s going to lie and say that they don’t check on the results, of course you do, but at the end of the day, it’s in our hands, so we put ourselves in the best place possible. We’ve been on an unbelievable run, one game at a time, just keep picking up three points. That’s all we can do, and the sole focus now is Squires Gate at home next week.” He then spoke about today’s goal scorers Rustam Stepans and Lewis Byrne with him saying “Yes, I think they probably both needed a goal. I think they probably judged themselves a little bit more on scoring goals, and they’ve probably been a little bit disappointed over the last few weeks that they haven’t got more each. But from my point of view, obviously records or goals is always something that you look at, but I think it’s more about the contribution that people make when they’re on the pitch, and both of them have been fantastic since they’ve been here. Rusty’s played 51 games, the stats are unbelievable, and I’m sure he’ll say he should have scored a few more. If he’d been really critical, he should have done. But what a contribution he’s made this season; he’s been absolutely outstanding. So, yes, good for them to both get on the score sheet. Could’ve done with a DJ [Pedro] one, he’s missed a chance there. But look, we get the three points, 2-0 win, it’s as you were, so we go again next week.” Dave then looked ahead to the match against Squires gate next week at Gigg Lane “Obviously, they’re fighting for their lives, so every point matters for them. It’s not going to be one of those end-of-season games that you see sometimes where a team’s got nothing to play for and they’ve already got the flip-flops on and the half on the beach. It’s not going to be that, they’re fighting for their lives. Luke’s an exceptional coach, he’s a really, really good coach. He’ll have them very organised, and I’m sure it’ll be tough for us to break them down. We’ve been really good at Gigg, we’ve played some great football there. This week, we’ve got to prep and be ready for it, and play against another tough team, and we go again.” View the full article
  9. After 10 successive wins, it’s getting harder by the week for us to keep our feet on the ground. But we take nothing for granted as we head for Pilkington backed by what we hope will be 1,000 noisy Shakers fans. Lower Breck kept up the pressure at the top by winning 3-1 at lowly Colne on Tuesday night. They’ve now played the same number of games and are just three points behind. Our margin of victory at Pilkington’s neighbours FC St Helens last weekend was as slim as it can be. But that was down to a string of outstanding saves by goalkeeper Joe Mason. We dominated the game especially in the first 45. Hopefully, Pilkington’s 3G surface will enable us to play the kind of attractive football we’ve so often produced of late. We beat Pilkington 2-0 at home in November. DJ Pedro – then on loan – marked his home debut with a goal, and Rustam Stepans scored the other. Since then, both have clocked up a remarkable tally of goals and assists. We’re back at Gigg Lane for more great football on the 29th. Meanwhile, St Helens here we come for the second successive Saturday. Loud and proud as usual! Up The Shakers! In Opposition – Pilkington A 3-3 draw at FC Isle of Man last weekend gave a lift to Pilkington, who’ve won only one and lost three of their last six matches. They’re 21st in the table – one place higher than when we last played them. Last season we beat them twice in what was for both clubs our first in the premier division. As their name suggests, Pilkington started life as a team representing the famous St Helens glassworks. They’re now a thriving community club with three men’s senior teams, three women’s, 30 junior and youth teams and a walking football section. Admission & TicketsThis fixture is ALL-TICKET. 10. We are delighted to announce Brian Richardson has joined the club from FC United of Manchester. He joins the Shakers as Head of Recruitment, following the departure of Jimmy Holmes last week. The 73-year-old, Bury born, has been associated with FC United since 2019 where he’s held roles such as assistant manager, and more recently Director of Football for the men’s team. Richardson held roles on the touchline before this, having been manager at Prescot Cables for three years, as well as spells at Ashton Town, Daisy Hill & Bootle. He was also assistant manager at Skelmersdale United, where he had worked for ten years. In his playing days, Brian was a professional with Blackpool FC. Brian offers a wealth of non-league experience in the dugout and behind the scenes, he will aid Dave McNabb with his contact book going into next season. He will begin the role with immediate effect and will attend training to link up with the management and squad this evening. Upon joining the club, Brian said: “Looking forward to a new challenge at Bury FC. Sleeping giant and everything moved quickly, and I didn’t even have enough time to say goodbyes to many friends at FC United. I hope I can play a part in helping Bury FC quickly climb the ladder back to where they belong.” Manager, Dave McNabb added: “I’m really pleased with Brian’s appointment, he’s someone who I’ve had a lot of respect and admiration for over the years. “Brian has an unparalleled wealth of knowledge and experience from working across multiple roles and clubs within non-league. He will be a huge asset to our football club going forward.” (Lead Image Credit: Matt Wilkinson/FC United of Manchester) View the full article

  14. We are very pleased to announce two appointments of staff on a full-time permanent basis. Casey Lynchey will take up the role of Head of Operations immediately. Casey stepped into this role on an interim basis in November 2024, combining it with her existing role of Community Development Officer. Casey has introduced some excellent initiatives whilst in the role on an interim basis and has been instrumental in community engagement and ensuring the smooth running of events on and off the pitch. Casey’s energy, enthusiasm and dedication makes her an excellent fit for the club moving forward and we are delighted to be retaining her as a permanent member of staff. Her role will continue to incorporate an element of community development although additional resource will be recruited to this area in due course. Chris Watts will take up the role of Commercial Manager in mid-April. Chris is already well known as the club’s matchday analyst working with Dave McNabb and the coaching staff and he proved to be the outstanding candidate for the Commercial Manager position following a thorough recruitment process, particularly impressing at the interview stage. Chris will be fundamental to generating revenue through advertising and sponsorship by attracting new business through the club’s Partner Programme and engaging with existing stakeholders. Chris will also provide an element of the additional resource required on the community development aspect. We are delighted to welcome Chris as a permanent member of staff and look forward to working with him. View the full article
  15. Bury won 1-0 this afternoon away at FC St Helens, Defender Aaron Chalmers spoke to the club to give us his thoughts on the game. Aaron Chalmers: “Yeah, very tough. The pitch didn’t help us at all, to be fair. You can’t really play football on that pitch. But this time of the season, it’s not about the performances, it’s more about just the results. We’ve come away with 1-0, the Keep have made three or four top-class saves, to be fair. So, could have been more, should have been, but 1-0 will take it and move on to next week.” He then spoke about what its like being back in the starting 11 for the first time since Christmas, he said: “Yeah, obviously, I was away for two weeks when I got married and on my honeymoon. I had a little niggle last week that wasn’t nothing serious. Obviously, I got involved today, I was lucky enough to start. But yeah, the squad we’ve got, even if one of us is injured, one of us has niggles or suspension, there’s a full 18 to 20 lads who are more than comfortable to cover any position that we’ve got. We’ve got two or three lads in every position. So yeah, if I play or I don’t play, I’m just here to support. I’d rather play and sit on the bench because I’m not the best person to sit and watch. But yeah, we’ll get on with it and whatever happens, happens. But yeah, I’m well happy to play.” Aaron then spoke about the squad and what its like playing in a back 3 “Yeah, we’ve adapted to be fair. When I went away, like I said, we adapted and went to a three in the back, maybe conceding a bit too many goals than we’d like to. We’ve gone to a three and I thought we’ve been comfortable to be fair. We’ve had one or two scares here and there. Obviously, I wasn’t here last week at Barnoldswick. I think the three at the back gives us more defensive cover. I do like to command and boss my players about, so it gives me the chance to do that. But I think with the solid three at the back, it gives us a bit more licence to use Russie as a left wing-back and Beto to get forward more, to join in to them forward players, as Cam’s been doing very well in the ten and Lewis and DJ do what they do anyway. So, I think going forward, we’re pretty solid with the three. If it’s me playing Reece [Kendall], Aidan [Walker], Louis [Jeanne], Gaz [Peet] when he’s in, I think we’re very comfortable and we can adapt. If it’s not working as a three, we can jump to a four. It’s not really a problem; we’ve worked on it in training. Everything comes pretty easy to us at the minute. So, yeah, a three at the minute, maybe a four next week, who knows?” He then spoke about keeping another clean sheet this season “Yeah, of course. A clean sheet to a defender is like scoring a goal for a striker. That’s what we value. Our priorities are keeping clean sheets, especially as Mitch has done. Not just the back three, to be fair. No, the back four, five, six-ish. But today, we’ve kept another clean sheet, but it’s come working from the front, from stopping them long balls to the big nine, pressuring constantly, never letting them have a second on the ball. But in this league, clean sheets in this team will win all day. We’ll have 10, 12 to 15 chances a game. We’ll score three or four. Not today, because the keeper’s done some great saves, but yeah, clean sheets for us as defenders are pretty much everything we ask for.” Aaron then gave us his thoughts on todays opposition, he said “They’ve got people who are good at what they do. They’re very direct. They play to the nine, they play off him, they’ve got runs in behind. And when you give them time, they do try and pick that pass out and try and play that ball in behind. But I thought we nullified it today. I thought we were very, very organised in the back as a three, then as a five and Bobby sitting. I thought Josh Greggory was different class again. Yeah, he’s got to pop the pitch and possibly should have scored. But yeah, they are a threat at what they do. They’re very good at what they do. But again, we said we’ve nullified them. They’ve hardly had a chance. So, we’ll take another three points on to Saturday. He then looked ahead to next weeks fixture against Pilkington with him saying “You don’t really worry about them. We just concentrate on us. I’ve heard a few things of Lower Breck and Ramsbottom winning. If we win every game, it doesn’t matter what they do. So, we’ll go into that game full of confidence, like we have been for the last six, seven weeks. Play our game, it’s on a 3G. Yeah, it’s not as good as ours, but we’ll just go there, turn up, be professional and hopefully, I’m confident we’ll come away with another three points.” View the full article
  16. Bury won 1-0 over FC St Helens as their charge for the title continues, Manager Dave McNabb spoke to the club to give us his thoughts on the game. Dave McNabb: “I think overall, over the moon really, I think a really tough game, really challenging conditions, the pitch was tough in terms of the dry weather and the bobbles, wasn’t conducive to playing any type of football on, but you go through a season and you’ve got to come up against different challenges and different adversity and I think the lads were absolutely outstanding. It wasn’t pretty to watch, but we battled to a man, we probably created another four or five really good chances, the game should have been out of sight I think, even in the first half, but the commitment, the group, it’s a special group, I think we’ve seen something change over the last few weeks, the togetherness, the camaraderie, the never say die attitude and today they’ve shown it in buckets and made up it’s another game ticked off.” Dave then gave special praise to St Helens keeper Joe Mason who he had previously worked with at Macclesfield with him saying “Yeah, he did, he’s an excellent young goalkeeper, Joe, worked with him at Macclesfield, he’s got a really good future ahead of him, you’ve seen today what he’s best at, that shot stop and that reaction, reaction saves, he’s a really, really outstanding young goalkeeper to go far, obviously working with Mick at FC St Helens I think, it’s a good club for him, it’s a good base for him to grow, so yeah, if we’re going to be critical I think we’ve got to put the chances away where we don’t give them a chance but he’s made one in particular was a world-class save and it was unbelievable but I think there’s a few where we could have got a bit better contact and maybe put the game to bed.” He then spoke about the reasons behind Aaron Chalmers inclusion in the squad as well as Connor Pye absence with him saying “Yeah, so obviously I think what Aaron gives us is a lot of experience and a lot of leadership and communication across the back line, we knew it was going to be a game today where there was probably going to be a lot of balls put on us and I think that’s obviously Aaron’s strength sort of defending that first contact so it made sense to bring Aaron in today. It’s tough, it’s tough to leave lads out of the squad, it’s tough to make decisions over who starts but it’s a better problem to have than it is to obviously be searching for someone to fill a gap so yeah, we’ve got an unbelievable squad at the moment and it’s difficult to manage but every time lads turn up they keep performing.” Dave also provided an update to Rhys Kendall injury after he came off in the second half, he said “No, it’s going to be touch and go, I think he thought he could get through it which is always a good sign, he’s just rolled his ankle a little bit so it’s a little bit sore but tender now, obviously we’ll assess him Tuesday and make some decisions for next weekend but hopefully Thursday.” He then spoke about whether this squad has what it takes to go all the way “Yeah, I mean, that’s what I mean, the lads are together, they’ve got a common goal, I think they all understand the jobs, they all understand the roles within the team, within the squad and look, they’re all pushing each other and you know, steel sharp and steel, I think it’s really pleasing to be around the group at the moment, it’s really enjoyable to be around them, I think they’re pushing each other, they’re striving for excellence and you know, it’s only 1-0, I’ll take 1-0 every game between now and the end of the season so, another big three points, doesn’t matter what else happens, I think we’re just sole focused now on Pilkington away next week, we’ve got two good training sessions and everything’s about trying to pick up three points next weekend.” Dave then gave a message to the fans as we head into the last five games of the season “I think as staff obviously we’re always looking ahead, we’re always looking at what’s coming sort of over the horizon but for the players, we’ve only got one game left and that’s the next one, we’ve got to focus on the next game, the fans were unbelievable again today, they’ve been outstanding at Gigg, we’ve got a tough away game next week, come in your numbers, bring the noise and we’ll make sure that we try and get the three points.” View the full article

  18. We have recently been named the Manchester FA ‘Provider of the Month’, due to the number of new casual playing opportunities established at Bury FC since the turn of the year. From girls only “Wildcats” for 4-9 year olds and “Squad Girls’” for those aged 11 to 14, to our successful “Comets” pan disability sessions and our most recently launched walking football, all groups are benefitting from playing on the 3G pitch at Gigg Lane and have been welcomed into the Bury Football Club family. We have also expanded our over-subscribed men’s recreational sections by introducing a men’s vets group, so we now have over 50 men signed up to our recreational sessions and with more wanting to join, we are looking at ways to expand further. Our development plans will see more new initiatives launched throughout the year and we are continually looking for new and innovative ways to get people down to the stadium both on and off the pitch. Our next phase will see us introduce Soccercise classes and fitness boot camps. Again supported by Manchester FA to get things up and running, they are always on hand to offer support. We are working closely with Bury Council live well practitioners too. One particular project we can’t wait to get started on is working with local BAME group on engagement through football and fitness for women and children from diverse backgrounds. This partnership will see the group take part in activities at Gigg Lane and also attend our final matches of the season. We know for some, this will be their first ever football match, so we want to make it a special experience for them and we hope that they catch the football bug! View the full article
  19. When Dave Russell’s team of the 1960/1961 season impressively claimed the Football League Division Three Championship, they did so in swashbuckling style. Three players – Don Watson, Bill Calder and Alan Jackson (pictured left to right below) – each scored more than twenty goals and the Shakers created a new club record by scoring an impressive 108 league goals. Speed forward to 2025 and Dave McNabb’s boys have now already beaten that record – and with seven games still remaining! Those seven goals against Litherland REMYCA, 12 days ago, took Bury’s total for the season to 113 goals and who knows how many the final total might end up as – after the weekend against Barnoldswick Town we stand at 115 goals. Fantastic stuff lads. Congratulations on creating yet another club record. View the full article
  20. The Shakers’ comfortable 2-0 win at home to Barnoldswick Town was our ninth in succession – a run we aim to continue and clinch promotion. And what a treat to be roared on by another big gate: 3,497. Just six games to go – three at home and three away. This weekend it’s FC St Helens away, followed in a week’s time by a visit to their neighbours, Pilkington. Then it’s back to Gigg Lane on March 29 for the visit of Squires Gate – currently second to bottom. The mood music that day will be provided not only by the South Stand but a choir organised by our partners British National Opera and the Walk the Plank project. There were fireworks the last time we played FC St Helens – all around the ground, because it was Bonfire Night. But on the pitch there was a distinct lack of excitement. We were clearly the better team, but missed a host of chances and had to settle for 1-1. Now we’re top of the table with 91 points from 40 games. With six to go – three each home and away – we have our eyes firmly fixed on promotion. So we’re hoping plenty of fans will be making both trips to St Helens to support the lads, loud and proud as usual! Up the Shakers!!! In Opposition – FC St Helens St Helens are having an up-and-down first season in tier nine after their promotion from Division One North. They’ve won only two of their last six matches, leaving them in eighth position with 61 points. They did us a big favour two weeks ago with a 3-2 win at Rammy. But then last weekend they slumped to a 5-1 defeat by Lower Breck, who are breathing down our necks in second place. Admission & TicketsThis fixture is ALL-TICKET. Limited tickets remain on sale. 21. We can confirm Head of Recruitment, Jimmy Holmes has joined National League North side South Shields. Jimmy has written the following statement, reflecting on his time at the club: “It has been a privilege to work for this football club, The people here especially the supporters make it so special. To have had the opportunity to help build this fantastic group of players means a lot to me. I am leaving in the knowledge that the squad is in such great shape moving forward. “I would like to thank Dave McNabb & Jon Newby for bringing me into the club. The chairman, directors & volunteers for making me feel welcome and all the support staff who without them the club wouldn’t be where it is today. When I came in as Head of Recruitment I was asked to identify players that would fit the club moving forward. It’s been a pleasure to play a part in building the squad that is doing so well this season. Seeing the club sitting at the top of the league, leading the goalscoring charts hitting over 100+ league goals so far this season has made this a very difficult decision. The players & staff have been fantastic and are a credit to the club and themselves. The recruitment model will now allow the club to push on over the coming seasons whilst being sustainable and within budget. “I can honestly say that this season has been one of the most enjoyable seasons I’ve had in football and I will miss everything about the club as I move on. It would be great to see them now go on and gain promotion this season. If I can help them in any way moving forward it would be my pleasure”. Manager, Dave McNabb said: “I’m gutted that Jimmy has decided to move on, he’s been a huge part in where we are so this season and will be a big loss going forward. I’d like to place on record my thanks for all his hard work and would like to wish him good luck at his new club.” Board member, Jon Newby added: “I’d like to personally wish him well in his new role. He has worked tirelessly to strengthen Bury Football Club on the pitch & the squad him & Dave have built is the strongest it has been in the last few years. It has been a pleasure to work alongside Jimmy and he will always be welcome at Gigg Lane.” All at Bury Football Club would like to wish Jimmy all the best for his new role with South Shields. 23. Bury won 2-0 over Barnoldswick Town as they continue their march towards the NWCFL Premier Division title, Captain Bobby Carrol spoke to the club to give us his thoughts on the game. Bobby Carroll: “I think the main thing out of today was getting the three points and we’ve done that. I think we started the game quite well, first 20, obviously got the goal quite early, played some good stuff, started with good intensity. I’m not sure if some music just dropped off a little bit towards the end of the first half. I thought we got a bit sloppy in possession, forcing balls. Credit to them, they played some good stuff, tried to play out from the back and caused us a few problems. I thought we showed good spirit in the second half, got about them a bit more, had a bit of a higher press and we looked a lot better in the second half.” He then spoke about whether they expected Barnoldswick to play the way they did with him saying “Definitely, we know they like to play football. Their sentiment was dropping in as well, into the back four, trying to get on it a little bit. So, yes, they had some good patterns. To be fair to them, they played some good stuff and obviously caused us a few problems. But yes, the lads dealt well with it and we’re really happy with the clean sheet as well.” Bobby then spoke about if its good to play with the same players each week “Yes, definitely. We’re a really tight-knit group and you can see that on the pitch. You could see that today as well with the lads coming off the bench. I thought they were outstanding today. Every single person who came off the bench, they gave everything. That’s what we want and that’s what we need right through to the end of the season.” He then spoke about how good it was to play back-to-back home games and whether that’s helped with the pressure to finish the season strong “Yes, definitely. Being at home is ideal with all the fans. There was a big turnout again today and they got us over the line in the end. They were really good, really loud all game. They were amazing. Definitely, two home games will be really important for us in the running. Obviously, every game is really important now. Even the away games, obviously, we take a lot of fans with us. Every game is important. We win them all. We win the league. That’s what we’re looking to do.” Bobby then looked ahead to next weeks clash with FC St Helens “Yes, obviously, we’ve played them already this season. They were a good side. I think we drew the game. They were a good team. We like to play some good stuff. It’ll be a tough game, but we’ll go into it with confidence. Hopefully, we can get the win.” To finish the interview Captain Bobby sends a special message to the fans with him saying “Yes, just keep supporting us like you have been. You’ve been absolutely fantastic. Six more games to go and then hopefully we’ll be lifting that trophy of yours.” View the full article
  24. Bury won 2-0 in a tightly fought game against Barnoldswick Town, Manager Dave McNabb spoke to the club to give us his thoughts on the game. Dave McNabb: “Obviously really pleased to get the three points and another win. I think obviously the run’s been really good and the lads, massive credit to the lads. To start with the negatives, I think I was a little bit disappointed. We could have been more clinical. First half, we missed two one-on-ones, we had another good chance off a corner. Probably could have gone in, so it’s a 3-0 up, 4-0 up and you think it’s about then seeing the game through and being a bit more professional. We didn’t control the game enough, both in and out of possession first half. I think that was probably from the point we scored the goal we stopped because I thought we started really well. But I think some of that credit’s got to go to Barnoldswick. They played some really good stuff. They’ve got some very good technical players, they’re big, strong, they’re powerful. Didn’t create an awful lot, I know they’ve had a couple of chances from set-pieces, but the build-up plays and the way they move the ball causes problems at times. Overall, it’s about getting three points on the board and we more than deserve that but just need to make sure our standards are high.” He then spoke about Aaron Chalmers absence from today’s squad with him saying “He’s got a bit of a pull on his hamstring, just a low grade, but he felt it on Saturday and then he came Tuesday and had to stop. He couldn’t train Thursday, and he’s probably touch and go for next week. He’s got an outside chance, but I doubt he’ll be available for next week, but we’ll see.” Dave then spoke about his team achieving 3 clean sheets on the bounce with him saying “Yes, I think defensively I agree with the angle of what you’re saying. I think defensively we haven’t been good enough at times this season, 100 per cent. Clean sheets few and far between, I think it was our 14th in the league, highest in the league 15. It was not that bad. I think the problem’s been in games where we’ve conceded too many. I think obviously when we shut shop up and being professional with it and moved across the pitch well, I think like we did today, we’ve looked really good. I think at times we’ve capitulated and conceded too many goals. I think three on the bounce is a massive kudos to the players and the way they’re now starting to lift some strokes. We’ve done quite a lot of defensive work over the last few weeks in training and starting to pay dividends.” He then spoke about his constant adaptations to the team’s structure throughout the season with him saying “Versatility is massive. Obviously, people will talk about tactics and formations, and it is important, but what we like to say to the players is the formation that we put up is basically the starting position on the pitch when you kick off. The formation can change. I think what’s really important is the way that we play, and our identity doesn’t. Regardless of whether we’re playing a back three, a back four, we’ve got five in midfield, four in midfield, whatever it is, we should be able to switch between multiple shapes. We’ve worked on multiple shapes, we’ve worked on three or four different formations this year, so the players should be able to adapt and fit into those formations and regardless, the way we play should always look the same. Compact, solid to break down and when we get the ball, nice and expansive, playing through the lines and playing forward and trying to be creative.” He then also gave praise to Josh Gregory who picked up Bury’s February player of the month and also provided us an update on his issue that saw him leave the pitch, he said “Yes, I was really pleased for him when I saw the results and it was a landslide in the votes as well, which is brilliant for him because, again, he’s had a tough year, he had a tough couple of years. He’s come in, that’s the Josh we knew we were signing at the start of the season. Obviously, the fans haven’t seen enough of that because of the injuries, but he’s made a massive difference. He’s made us look so much more solid, more competitive, so it was made up he got that award. It wasn’t anything bad today, he’s just not felt great coming into the game and obviously on a hot day, he was just feeling a bit tired and a bit dehydrated. So, yes, no concerns for him for next week.” Dave then gave special praise to the fans for their support during todays match “They were phenomenal again. They started the singing even earlier today; I think we were only halfway through the warm-up, and they’d already started. It makes a massive difference; it makes a huge difference both for our players and for the opposition as well. It was really positive throughout today, which is great. We had a couple of tough five-minute spells in the game and the fans noticed that and started. It works both ways, you’ve got to get them up and make them enjoy it. I think the noise and the volume that they can bring is just massive to the players. The message is to keep it open. We’ve got two tough away games now, so come on your numbers, bring that drum, keep your noise up and hopefully we can pick up some more points.” To finish the interview Dave looked ahead to next weeks clash vs FC St Helens with him saying “It’s going to be a really tough game. I went and watched them last Friday when they played Ramy. I thought they were excellent. I thought they were a little bit unlucky to be 2-0 down. I thought Ramy were really good in the transitions, and they took the two chances well. Then St Helens were outstanding after that. I think they’ve been beat well today by a lower break, but I think Darren was there, so I believe that up until the second goal, they were very much in the game. We know it’s going to be a tough game. They’re obviously going to want to try and pick up those three points. Very competitive, really good group of lads in terms of the team spirit they’ve got. We’re going to have to be at our best to get anything from the game.” View the full article
  25. Our stunning 7-0 victory against Litherland REMYCA in front of 3,315 extended our fantastic winning run to eight games and extending the gap at the top of the table. We were given a lift even before the kick-off when Ramsbottom lost at home to FC St Helens on Friday night. And the big margin of victory more than made up for the result in the reverse fixture at Litherland in December. Five goals before half time and seven separate scorers demonstrated the terrific attacking mindset in the team. And it was great to see Nicky Adams back in action as a sub following his hamstring injury. The Shakers 4-1 victory at Barnoldswick on January 18 launched our winning run, so we’ll be looking to extend it before two away fixtures at FC St Helens and Pilkington. We’re now on 88 points from 39 games – 10 in front of Rammy, who lost again on Tuesday. Lower Breck also remain a threat, in second place after a midweek home win against West Didsbury and Chorlton. They’ve won five of their last six matches and are on 79 points from 37 games. If we win every match, we win the league. We’ve seen how a big, noisy crowd helps the team. So…be there, be part of it, be loud and be proud! and make some noise!!!! Up The Shakers!!! View the post match media from last weekend’s win vs Litherland REMYCA including interviews with Dave McNabb & Mitch Allen. In Opposition – Barnoldswick Town Since we beat them, Barlick have made something of a recovery. They’ve lost only one of their last six games – won three and drawn two. That leaves them in 14th position, with 54 points from 39 games. They’re an ambitious club with a good set-up. They will be looking to achieve 10th place at least by the end of the season, so we can expect them to come to Gigg looking for a good result.
