  1. In light of the recent cold weather conditions across the country and specifically the North West in recent days, there are issues around the suitability to play this weekend’s fixture considering the impacts on both the pitch and safety concerns around Gigg Lane. With this in mind, and being considerate of our visitors travel arrangements, we have held discussions with the League and FC Isle of Man. A final decision in this regard will be made on Friday morning (10th) and be communicated to supporters shortly afterwards. View the full article
  2. We look forward to welcoming the travelling players, staff, volunteers and fans from the Isle of Man to Gigg Lane this coming Saturday for what is set to be a tough challenge as Dave McNabb’s men look to bounce back from last weekend’s loss in South Manchester. The inquest on what went wrong at the Step Places Stadium has been thorough and honest. We hope to see the fruits of all that heart-searching in this match and the rest of the season. With that in mind, we’re still up there and remain second in the league. Chadderton are now three points behind us from the same number of games and new signings have further strengthened our squad. Our bid for promotion is most definitely on – and definitely achievable. So come on Shakers! Get down to Gigg and support the lads with plenty of noise. Up the Shakers!!!! View Saturday’s post match media including interviews with Dave McNabb & Nicky Adams below. In Opposition – Ramsbottom United The Ravens went straight into the NWCFL Div 1 South after being set up in 2020, were promoted in their first season, and now sit in 9th position in the Premier Division. It’s a remarkable record, and we saw their strengths in our 1-1 draw in Douglas in September. They defend robustly and are skilled in the art of game management. They’ve hit a rocky patch, having won only one of their last six matches. But the recent 3-2 home win against St Helens – just above them in the table – gave them a boost. We scraped that draw on the island with a goal from Ben Hockenhull in the final minute. By then we had only nine players after two were sinned-binned in the final stages. 4. The club has been made aware of some recent incidents at our home games at Gigg Lane, which have gone against the values, and in some cases, the rules set in place which supporters are required to adhere to. We therefore have to address these important matters to ensure the continued success and inclusivity of our club. This season, we’ve made significant strides in many areas, particularly in improving fan behaviour. These efforts have been recognised by the FA, the league and other stakeholders. In our first season back at Gigg Lane, incidents off the pitch led to severe consequences, which culminated in two matches being played behind closed doors. Thanks to the measures we’ve implemented, these challenges are now largely behind us. We sincerely thank the overwhelming majority of our fan base for supporting our efforts to make Gigg Lane a welcoming, family-friendly club. A loud and proud fan base is invaluable, as any conversation with Dave McNabb or the players will confirm, and your energy on match days is deeply appreciated. Despite this, there has continued to be isolated incidents that are entirely unacceptable. This includes acts of discrimination. Regardless of gender, race, age, or sexuality, everyone is welcome at our club. Just look around the stands, and you will see the diversity that makes our club special. We urge all fans to continue making Gigg Lane inclusive. If you witness any anti-discriminatory behaviour, we ask you to call it out by reporting it immediately. By reporting to a member of our security team or volunteer base immediately will help us stamp out these issues straight away. Please do not take matters into your own hands – let us handle it appropriately. As a reminder to all supporters, the following rules are in place inside the stadium and should be adhered to at all times. Pyrotechnics and Smoke Bombs Possession of a pyrotechnic or smoke bomb when entering a stadium is illegal and in line with this, is strictly prohibited at Gigg Lane. These items are dangerous and can cause harm if misused. There has been an incident of one being thrown onto our new pitch over Christmas, which threatens to damage the surface. This is completely unacceptable. Our pitch is vital for our men’s and women’s teams, as well as for junior, recreational, and community teams. Please help us protect this valuable asset. Smoking and Vaping Smoking and vaping is permitted only in the designated smoking area. In the South Stand, this is located past the toilet block which is clearly marked behind the Manchester Road End. Smoking in other areas, particularly near the South/West stand corner and food outlets, is not allowed. Non-compliance will result in removal from the ground. Please adhere to the new signage indicating smoking and non-smoking areas. Alcohol Consumption We encourage everyone to drink responsibly when at Gigg Lane, for the safety and enjoyment of all. Underage drinking has been identified as an issue and will not be tolerated at Gigg Lane. Please do not purchase alcohol for others who are unable to do so themselves as we combat this issue. Thank you for your continued support in making Gigg Lane a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for all. Together, we can maintain and build upon our strong attendance numbers and vibrant fan base. View the full article

  7. We are delighted to confirm the signing of forward Lewis Byrne from Chadderton. The 27-year-old has excelled himself since his break into North West Counties Football just over three years ago. Joining Bacup Borough at the start of the 2021/22 season, from Sunday league side Avenue FC in Middleton. He left Brent Peters’ side for Chadderton in the summer after scoring 27 goals last season and crowning them winners of the Edward Case Cup, with a stunning free-kick against Euxton Villa in the final. The scoring form has continued into this season with 34 goals in 38 games, including 10 goals in his last eight games. Upon signing for the club, Lewis said: “When I heard that Bury wanted to sign me it was the best feeling that I have had in football to date. “I spoke to Dave about the club’s ambitions which go much further than this season, the experience of the team and the infrastructure that is in place which has everything to take myself and the whole club to the next level and beyond. “I’m so happy to be a part of this club’s journey which is only heading one way.” Manager, Dave McNabb added: “Lewis is a natural goalscorer with a brilliant range of finishing and an instinct to be in the right place at the right time. “His goalscoring record for the last 3 seasons is evident of this. Capable of playing anywhere across the front line he will give us even more firepower heading into the final third of the season.” The signing is subject to NWCFL & FA approval. View the full article
  8. The Shakers start 2025 in great shape after a final few games of the year which saw us wrap us the festive season with seven points from three games marked by some solid performances and 12 goals. It was a tough run, and this will be a tough game in South Manchester. But we’re at the top of the league, with 64 points from 30 games, compared with West’s 50 from 28 in fifth position. Despite much of the squad suffering from a bug we overcame an early goal to come away 5-2 derby day winners against Prestwich Heys. Much credit for the size of the winning margin must go to Rustam Stepans. He came on as a late sub despite being one of several players in the squad who were unwell. The two goals he scored in a matter of minutes took his tally for the season to 18, and included a classic of the kind we’ve often seen from him this term. So here’s to 2025: one game a week with no postponements (fingers crossed), and eyes set firmly on promotion. You know the drill, back the lads! Loud and proud! Up The Shakers. In Opposition – West Didsbury & Chorlton West started life as a Sunday School team in 1908 and became West Didsbury AFC in 1920. They added Chorlton to their name in 2003 to reflect their move to their current location seven years earlier. Joining the NWCFL in 2012 and were promoted to the premier division after just one season. They are currently on a good run, having won five and lost only one of their last six matches. Next up after the Shakers is a visit to North Shields in the fourth round of the Isuzu FA Vase – a competition in which West have enjoyed considerable success. 13. After the big one, we have another local derby against neighbours Prestwich Heys and the prospect of going into the New Year still at the top of the league. Victory against Heys would bring our points tally over the Christmas period to seven, but we can be sure they won’t go down without a fight. As we’ve seen again and again, teams come to Gigg Lane determined to give us a tough battle. For Heys, a local derby makes the challenge even greater. It’s disappointing that we don’t go into the game with the prospect of making it nine points over Christmas. But a convincing victory at high-flying Chadderton last weekend and a good performance against Ramsbottom to come from behind twice to draw, sends us into this final festive fixture in good heart. The Boxing Day gate of 5,800-plus was a huge encouragement, and shows the world that we mean business. So the call goes out again. Please be there and keep Gigg Lane rocking. Up the Shakers!!! View Boxing Day’s post match media including interviews with Dave McNabb, Gaz Peet & Cam Fogerty below. In Opposition – Prestwich Heys Heys lost 1-0 at Irlam on Boxing Day, but can take heart from their 2-1 home win against Longridge Town last Saturday. They’re eight points behind second-to-bottom Colne, having scored only 24 goals all season and conceded 61. In 28 matches, Heys have accrued only 12 points – three wins and three draws. But it’s perhaps significant that two of those three wins have come in recent games, so perhaps some form to draw from heading into this fixture. 21. It’s the big one – a local derby, with top position in the league again at stake. Our performance in beating Chadderton 5-2 away from home was a huge morale-booster for everyone at Gigg Lane. But we face a tough battle to stay top. Ramsbottom are behind us only on goal difference and have a game in hand. Chadderton are only one point behind us, but have played one game more. And breathing down the necks of all three top teams are Lower Breck, whose six victories in succession have pushed them into a threatening position in fourth place. Notwithstanding the great win at Chaddy, the two teams will be all square when the ref blows that starting whistle. It will help the lads enormously if they are backed by a raucous, bumper Boxing Day gate. So please come on down and get the ground rocking. Up the Shakers!!! View Friday’s post match media including interviews with Dave McNabb, DJ Pedro & Courtney Meppen-Walter below. In Opposition – Ramsbottom United Ramsbottom have made great progress since finishing 18th in the league last season. They’ve been top for almost the whole of the 24-25 season, and their consistency is reflected in their last six games – five wins and one draw. We drew 1-1 at Ramsbottom back in September. Last season we took four points from Rammy, winning 2-1 at home and drawing 0-0 away. We also knocked them out of the Macron Cup, winning on penalties after a 2-2 draw at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium.
