  1. Firstly, thank you for the continued patience being shown by all supporters in relation to information on obtaining refunds for the Behind Closed door matches. We appreciate that this affects single ticket purchases, season ticket holders, 1885 members and sponsors. We do not take your support for granted. The systems/mechanics involved in processing any refunds is not a simple one. As you can imagine the club has never had to deal with this situation before and with a club having a small number of full-time staff, it is taking some time to work through potential solutions. That being said, we could have communicated a update sooner and we acknowledge the fustrations that may have caused. We hope to be in a position to give an update next week having worked through the practical considerations for actioning refunds and aim to offer some suitable solutions/options. I am sure you can also appreciate that these charges have caused a signifcant hole in the club’s finances and have provided logistical challenges that are beyond the scope of what can reasonably be expected. We will communicate our plans next week and request your continued patience in awaiting further news on next steps. Thank you for your continued support. 4. We return home, but not as we know it, for a Tuesday clash against Barnoldswick Town in front of empty stands at Gigg Lane as the first of our stadium bans comes into force this week. The appeal against the ban to play two games behind closed doors, was rejected last week. Supporters will therefore not be able to watch from the stands for this game, or Saturday’s fixture against Charnock Richard. A summary of what this means has been outlined here. Despite this, the squad will be keen to jump back upon the horse after a stumble at weekend when we left the RG3 Digitial Stadium with no points in a disappointing game against Irlam. The teams cancelled each other out in the main, without many gilt edged chances for either side on a windy day in Salford. It was the hosts who grabbed the only goal of the game mid-way through the first half, with Ethan Cartwright lashing home a drilled shot from the edge of the box. Chances for Daniels on his return to Irlam, as well as Miles Storey, Sam Burns and Benito Lowe all didn’t hit the mark and we fell to defeat for the first time in 15 league games. It was also the first league shut-out of the season, with us hitting the net in all of the other 37 games up to Saturday, scoring 96 times in the process. The goals are there, and manager Dave McNabb will be hoping the squad return to form this week. The gaffer’s post-match interview from Saturday is available below. If this Tuesday’s game is anything like the reverse fixture when we visited The Silent Night Stadium in October, goals we will not be short of. In the manager’s fourth outing, we smashed seven unanswered goals past a fancied Barlick side, and stamped down our promotion-seeking credentials in the process. You can find the highlights to that game below. Last Time Out – Barnoldswick Town (a) Post-Match: Dave McNabb In Opposition – Barnoldswick Town The modern club formed in 1972 under the name Barnoldswick United (1972), after earlier incarnations in the 1920-30s folded soon after formation. Joining the local Craven & District League, before transferring to the East Lancashire League in the early 1990s, with two teams representing the club. In the late 1990’s, the club expanded to three teams, when 1st & 2nd team teams joined The West Lancashire Football League, and a new 3rd team staying in The East Lancashire League. The 2003/2004 season brought the amalgamation of Barnoldswick United (1972), Barnoldswick Park Rovers and Salterforth Juniors and we changed our name to Barnoldswick Town Football Club. It had always been in the club’s constitution to get the ground up to the minimum standards of The North West Counties Football League. The club were successful to be included from the start of the 2009/2010 season, being promoted at the first attempt after finishing as runner-up a position that they have maintained to this day. Barlick have maintained a fairly comfortable mid-table position after flirting with the play-off positions in the earlier part of the season. They currently sit in 16th position in the league, with 11 wins and 10 draws from 35 games so far. Last time out on Saturday, they lost to Wythenshawe Town 3-1. 5. We are delighted to confirm the signing of midfielder Dean Pinnington from FC Isle of Man. The Manx-born 21-year-old started his career at Wolves before moving to Wigan. Aged 10, Dean was invited to play at the Isle of Man Centre of Excellence, and he went on to represent the island as a junior from the age of 10 to 15. He was asked to attend a trial at Everton when he was 12, before an opportunity arose for with Wolves, a club he then spent three and a half years with. After leaving the Midlands, he joined Wigan he helped the club become U18 Professional Development League National Champions. He signed a pro deal in July 2021 Dean left the DW Stadium and went back home and joined FC Isle of Man where this season he’s made 30 appearances, notching up seven goals. His last appearance for the Ravens was against Bury at The Bowl last month. We asked Dave McNabb about his new signing and he said the following: Really please to get Dean on board he’s a player we know a lot about having played at Wolves and Wigan in his youth career. I was also very impressed with him when we played the Isle of Man. A great addition to ensure we have very strong options going into the final straight of the season Subject to league approval Dean will be available for today’s trip to Irlam #BuryFC | #PartOfIt | #ShakersTogether View the full article
  6. As our update earlier in the week, we are to play our next two home games behind closed doors. Supporters will not be allowed into Gigg Lane for the following two fixtures: Barnoldswick Town – Tues 12th March, 7.45pm KO Charnock Richard – Sat 16th March, 12.30pm KO* Thankfully, we have agreement from both Charnock and the league to bring forward the kick-off time next Saturday to 12.30pm*. This is to allow the game to be broadcast via live stream and not co-incide with the ‘blocked hours’ ruling, which prevents viewing within the UK of 3pm kick-offs on a Saturday afternoon. More on this further down the page. Further to the above, we have had to make the following preparations for this game and wish to inform supporters of the necessary plans with the update below. Who is allowed inside Gigg Lane? The ground will be not be open to supporters, and controls will be set up to prevent all but those allowed to enter the ground on each match day. This will include all players, staff and officials for each club alongside working volunteers who carry out necessary roles in ensuring the game can function as normal. This information will be gathered in the lead up to the games from both within the club and the visiting sides. There will therefore be representatives from both clubs allowed to carry out their roles across club administration, ground staff, team and kit staff, press representatives and club media officials alongside photographers and camera operatives. The car park will be closed to all those who are not on the accepted lists will not be allowed entry under any circumstances. Security operatives will be assisting on the entrance to the car park, as well as around the ground, to ensure we control access to Gigg Lane at all times. Tickets / Programmes It is our intention to offer refunds for all pre-purchased tickets for either game. We are working on a solution for reimbursing season ticket holders and will communicate this to follow. If you have any queries relating to tickets, please contact the club via email – tickets@buryfc.co.uk A programme will be available to purchase for pick-up at Gigg Lane after the completion of the behind closed doors fixtures. These will be £3 (plus Ticketco fee) each and available to buy only online. Head to buryfc.co.uk/tickets to buy yours. Access to the Live Stream Broadcast The live stream of both games will be available FREE OF CHARGE on the website (buryfc.co.uk), on our YouTube channel and across our Facebook page. The direct links will be communicated ahead of the games, but you won’t miss a moment of the action. Donations to the Club Supporters have asked about options to make financial contributions back to the club. We are working on providing an online payment mechanism and more details on this will follow. View the full article
  7. Irlam it is this weekend and our last game of the season outside of the Borough of Bury. With six of the last nine games at Gigg Lane, and the other two away games at Prestwich and Ramsbottom, we head out onto the M60 and into Salford for the last time in the regular season. It is a 3pm kick-off at the RG3 Digitial Stadium this Saturday. Last weekend, we grabbed the win against a tough Lower Breck side on a difficult pitch. That said, late chances went begging for Player of the Month Andy Scarisbrick and new loan signing, Miles Storey, which would have given the scoreline a gloss that the determined performance deserved. However, make no mistake the side continue to turn in results which keep us at the top of the league and the form table. A winning streak that stretches four games, going 14 unbeaten as well is just the tonic as we hit the business end of the season. Irlam by contrast have been hit and miss in recent weeks, with two wins, two draws and two losses in the last six. One of those wins was away at Chadderton however, which has slowed Chaddy’s assault on the top spots which has helped us but also acts as a reminder to not take our opponent lightly. Sat in 13th position in the league, comfortably away from the relegation spots and with the playoffs likely out of reach, are our opponents going to playing with a freedom that could cause us problems? We will have to wait and see, but as always we need our large following to be backing from the off as we go in the hunt of another three points. Charlie Doyle returns from his suspension, with Dec Daniels hopefully full recovered from his illness. Both would be facing off against their former side this weekend if so, with Andy Briggs also pushing for a start as he returns from the ankle injury suffered away at Cheadle Town three weeks ago. Your full match information is available below. Last Time Out – Irlam (h) ‘Playing Away’ – Episode Nine Opponents – Irlam Setup in 1969, as Mitchell Shackleton Football Club mostly competing in the local district leagues until renaming to Irlam Mitchell Shackleton in 2001 and after success in the Manchester League consistently in the early-2000s were renamed to their current name in 2006. Despite a relatively disappointing Manchester League performance in 2007-08, where they finished eighth, Irlam moved into the North West Counties for the following season before establishing themselves and getting promoted to their current position in the Premier Division with a second-placed finish in 2015-16.Irlam play at Silver Street, the former home of Irlam Town (1976-1995) following the relinquishing of their former home at Salteye Park, which made way for the new AJ Bell Stadium, home of Salford Reds and Sale Sharks which can be seen from the M60 around the Trafford Centre. Irlam finished last season in 17th, and have made a jump up the league in recent weeks to now lie in mid-table. On Tuesday night, they secured a 4-3 win away at Barnoldswick Town. 8. Following on from the announcement earlier in the week around the stadium ban coming into force from next Tuesday, the club is continuing to work on the plans around this and hopes to communicate an update on this ahead of this weekend. Prior to that, the following update is provided on other matters of relevance this week, including: • Results of a charge following the home game against Skelmersdale United. • Impacts of charges on the club • Current match-day procedures at Gigg Lane. • General Manager to answer your questions. Please find the full update below. FA Charge Hearing – Skelmersdale United (27th January) On Tuesday evening the club attended a second FA hearing within 48 hours, to answer charges relating to rule E.21 during our fixture against Skelmersdale United at Gigg Lane on Saturday 27th January. The club responded promptly to this charge when informed, which resulted in the de-escalation of the process. We pleaded not guilty to the charge that we ‘failed to ensure our spectators and / or supporters (and anyone purporting to be supporters or followers) conduct themselves in an orderly fashion’ following an incident that occurred towards the end of the game. These charges were found to be unproven by the FA and as a result the charges were discharged against the club. We are pleased with this result, and thank the team who responded to the charge for their work in this case. Impacts of charges on the club Whilst it is not expected that the club will routinely circulate the results of charges raised against the club (as above), partially as they are a matter to be dealt with privately with any relevant parties or authorities involved, we do recognise that the recent changes resulting in stadium closures will be alarming to supporters. We welcome the result of the most recent charge and wish to confirm to supporters that the club’s disciplinary group work diligently in both assisting any cases presented and defending the club in these instances. Historical offences have meant that club still sits under a 12-month suspended stadium ban, which runs until mid-September 2024. We are therefore still under scrutiny and will act appropriately to protect against further incidents. Steps have been taken to eradicate these issues at Gigg Lane, by both removing and banning individuals from the ground, as well as initially removing alcohol sales on match-day and making alterations to seating arrangements. We will continue to work with the regulatory bodies in ensuring that our supporters conduct themselves appropriately when attending fixtures and we urge all supporters to work with us to this goal. As has been shown this week, these measures are not taken lightly and the penalties are significant and have increased over time. A full stadium closure makes a large dent in budget expectations, which only serve to affect the club’s ability to progress. There is also the time spent by both staff, alongside dedicated volunteer effort, in preparing for each case. This time would be better spent on improving all the things that supporters want to see from their club. We urge supporters to take on board the impacts and consequences of fan disorder inside the ground to work with the club and their fellow supporters to build upon what is mostly a vibrant, welcoming and ultimately enjoyable experience in following the Shakers. Match Day at Gigg Lane Supporters will be aware that alcohol sales inside kiosks were re-introduced last week. This has been of a direct result of working with events and kiosk staff in implementing a workable solution. This process will continue to be re-evaluated by the board and General Manager going forward. There are many other significant developments being worked upon across the club ranging from short to long term in timescale, but definitely show the progressive nature that the club is looking to take, with supporters and the wider community at the heart of these developments. The most immediate plans centre on some big ticket items, like works to fully open the Main Stand, fan experience initiatives and works towards the proposed 3G pitch installation. We will of course bring you updates on these as they happen. Neil Sears answers your questions To bring supporters insight into some of these plans and despite only officially being in position for a couple of weeks, we will be putting newly-appointed General Manager, Neil Sears, in front of the camera soon to explain his role and how he is settling into life in BL9. We plan for this to be a regular update and a way of reporting on club matters at least every couple of months. Neil has overall responsibility for running day-to-day operations at Gigg Lane, but as part of the dual-role as club secretary, he also liaises with manager Dave McNabb on team matters. Whilst we plan to cover the main points in the first part of the video, there will be a chance for supporters to ask questions on the important issues that matter to them across the areas that Neil covers. If you have a question for Neil, please submit them via email to media@buryfc.co.uk by Sunday 10th March. View the full article

  10. Our appeal on the sanctions for charges relating to offensive supporter behaviour in September last year, has been dismissed. We will be required to play our next two home games behind closed doors. These are against Barnoldswick Town next Tuesday (12th) and Charnock Richard the following Saturday, 16th March. We are allowed to produce a live stream broadcast of the Barnoldswick game but not the Charnock Richard fixture. We will continue to work with the Manchester FA on tackling the serious issues that have been highlighted throughout the case. We, as a club, strive for a game which is free from discrimination and accessible and welcoming for all. There are number of operational challenges we are now working through, including the refund of tickets. Please bear with us as we finalise these, and further details will be provided in due course. In the meantime, if you have any ticketing queries the club can be contacted via email by clicking below: Ticketing Queries Here View the full article
  11. Today was our scheduled FA appeal hearing, following charges brought relating to offensive comments made by supporters inside Gigg Lane during the fixture against West Didsbury & Chorlton on 2nd September 2023 (here). The committee will now deliberate before feeding back on the judgement within the next couple of days. Supporters will be informed on the result of this process as soon as this is communicated to the club. View the full article
  12. Bury FC Player & National League Referee Leigh Gell, sat down with our matchday programme editor Chris Saville to discuss her experiences in football. Hello Leigh, thanks for talking to us. Tell us about yourself and why did you get involved with football? Just like many girls of my generation, I first started playing football with boys in primary school. It was my favourite sport, so I’ve continued playing since then and also became a coach and a referee when I was old enough. You are the Women and Girls Development Officer for Manchester FA, what does that involve? My role is to develop the grassroots game for women and girls, this means increasing the number of women and girls involved in football across a wide range of opportunities. We’ve seen a huge increase in demand for women and girls’ football and I love working with our clubs to grow their offer. It’s also important to me that they have relatable role models, so I run various projects to get more female coaches, referees and volunteers as well. As well as that, you also referee women’s football too? Yes, I currently referee in the Women’s National League and have also this season begun assisting in the North West Counties Football league. It took me a while to take up men’s football as a female, but I wanted to be an example for other female referees that they can also officiate in men’s football. What made you want to become a referee? If I’m honest, I only did the course because I was too young to do the coaching qualification. My club chairman suggested it would be a good alternative and that I could help the younger children at the club. Fast forward to now and I actually enjoy refereeing even more than playing – it’s crazy how things can change! On top of that you also play for Bury FC Women too, how do you find the time? My whole life is football, I don’t think a day goes by that I’m not involved in something to do with football, and I wouldn’t change a thing. There is such a wide range of things to do within football, so things still feel different! Officiating can be lonely at times especially training on your own, so I love to be able to train and support the girls, it’s truly a special club to be part of. In all your roles, which one do you find the hardest? Refereeing is definitely the one I find most challenging, no game is ever the same and you are always learning and developing. The pressure can be tough at times but ultimately you just want to make decisions that are best for the game – I know fans don’t always see it like that. I still don’t when I watch my own team. With so many women now participating or watching football, do you see a difference in how women are treated compared to men? Yes, I think we’ve come a long way and there are some brilliant improvements to shout about but I still think we have a long way to go as well. We’ve had a huge growth, but women and girls are still the minority in football by a long way. The more women’s and girls’ football grow, we are heading in the right direction and the more positive change we will see but we’re not there just yet. Do you think the historic perception of women in football is changing for the better? It’s brilliant to see the spotlight on the teams that paved the way for us to play. I’m looking forward to Copa 71 being released and also the documentary being created on Manchester Corinthians. It’s an important untold history and without those women, football wouldn’t look like it does today. What advice would you give to any girl or woman who wants to start playing, coaching, refereeing or watching football? Get involved right now – you won’t regret it! It’s the most enjoyable, rewarding thing you can ever be part of. What would you say to any female participant or fan playing, involved or going to football matches who hears things they don’t want to or who are subjected to any sexist abuse? What advice would you give them? If you feel protected, challenge it there and then but never put yourself at risk. Use the necessary reporting tools through Kick It Out and your local County FA to ensure it is reported. If things are not reported, nothing can change! Most importantly, don’t stop just because of someone else’s outdated opinion, you have every right to be there! As always, keep across the latest from the club on the website, X / Twitter & Facebook. #ShakersTogether | #HerGameToo | #PartofIt View the full article

  16. Will it ever stop raining? It seems like it hasn’t stopped for months, doesn’t it? We look to “go again” after our Tuesday night fixture against fellow promotion hopefuls Wythenshawe was rained off due to a waterlogged pitch. We have to celebrate the work of our grounds team and volunteers who have worked hard throughout what has been the wettest February on record to get games on but unfortunately on Tuesday, after an afternoon of rain, they were left with no time to clear the pitch and have it ready to play. Our attention now turns to this weekend and the visit of Lower Breck, one of only five sides who have managed to beat The Shakers this campaign who will this time face a much-changed Bury side, with only three of the matchday squad of sixteen still being with us at Gigg Lane. Breck have had mixed fortune in their last six outings with 2 wins, 2 draws, and 2 defeats. They currently sit 8th in the Premier Division table just three points off the playoffs and 19 points behind Bury having played one more game. It should be a great game of football featuring two sides who still have it all to play for! Get down, be loud and proud, and support your Shakers! Her Game Too This weekend our fixtures across both men’s and women’s first-team games will celebrate women in football, and in sport in general, as we endorse the ‘Her Game Too’ message. Read more about the plans for the weekend here and find out more about your HGT Ambassadors here. Alcohol Sales Resume At Gigg Lane The sale of alcohol during the game has now resumed as restrictions start to lift. for more information click here In Opposition – Lower Breck Founded in 2010 in Liverpool’s Tuebrook area, Lower Breck Football Club quickly established itself with a youth-driven approach aimed at future successes. Winning the South Liverpool Youth Division Title in their first season, they moved to the prestigious Carlsberg West Cheshire Association Football League, subsequently making history by winning the league title, West Cheshire Youth Plate, and LCFA County Cup—a first for any West Cheshire League team. Joining forces with Famous Grapes Football Club in 2012, Lower Breck entered the Liverpool County Premier League’s 2nd Division, winning the title in their first open-age season. Their ambition led to a European victory at the 2013 Rheintal Trophy in Cologne, Germany. By 2013/14, playing as Lower Breck FC in the Liverpool County Premier League’s 1st Division, they earned promotion to the Premier Division. By 2015/16, the club expanded to five teams, emphasizing growth and securing multiple domestic cup victories. Achieving an unbeaten record and sweeping all competitions in the 2017/18 season underscored their dominance in Liverpool football. Transitioning to a North West Counties affiliated member within ten years, Lower Breck FC exemplifies grassroots development, setting sights on FA Cup football and benefiting from community support. 17. Our HGT Team, Amy, Nic, Steph, Sam, Kirsty & Cath We met our main Her Game Too Ambassador, now we meet Sam’s support team – Nicola, Kirsty, Cath, Steph and Amy. We started by asking how they got involved with Her Game Too: Kirsty: I got involved with Her Game Too because I feel strongly about women having representation and a voice in what is a predominantly male sport. Cath: I got involved with Her Game Too because I think women needed more of a voice in football. Women have always watched football but haven’t always been made to feel they should be at games and Her Game Too is a way for women to feel they belong. Nicola: I have been an avid fan of football since I was young, and I love seeing more and more women at games. I wanted to be part of an inclusive movement that ensures that both men and women always feel welcome at their local football club. Steph: I become involved with Her Game Too because female football is something I have grown up loving and I have always been passionate about it. I played football when I was younger, and I loved the escape it gave me. Amy: I got involved because I have a young daughter and want to help change the stigma of football just being a man’s game. What is your role with Her Game Too and Bury? Kirsty: I am a Her Game Too advocate and my role is mainly to support Sam with getting the Her Game Too revolution out there amongst our fan base. Cath: I volunteer on match days, organising the turnstiles and manning the reception desk, welcoming the players and guests to the game, as well as being another advocate for Bury FC for Her Game Too. Nicola: I am also a Her Game Too advocate and I support our ambassador Sam at events and on social media. I am also a matchday volunteer on the turnstiles and I see first-hand how inclusive Bury FC really is. Steph: I am also a Her Game Too advocate for Bury FC and I also volunteer on a matchday operating the turnstiles. Amy: I am an advocate for the club, I support Sam in her role and help to promote Her Game Too. Do you think the historical perception of women in football is getting better? Kirsty: I do think the perception of women in football is getting better. I think times are finally changing and we especially have the amazing Lionesses to thank for that. Unfortunately, there are still some people that are stuck in the Dark Ages, but their voices are slowly becoming drowned out by our almighty roar. Cath: I do think it is getting better with the success of the women’s national team and having women commentating on games. I still think there is a way to go as some people still don’t think women should be involved in the game but hopefully the Her Game Too movement will improve it further. Nicola: Society is certainly more accepting of both men and women at games. There are still views held by some where women are seen as unequal so the Her Game Too movement is crucial to help continue to make positive steps in gender equality in football and sport. Steph: The historical perception of women’s football has definitely got better in my opinion. There are still things that can be improved or brought forward but all in all, it has really improved. Amy: Yes, I think it is getting better and it will only continue to get better too. 18. #HerGameToo pic.twitter.com/tYPBJmuNQP — Her Game Too (@HerGameToo) May 15, 2021 This weekend our fixtures across both men’s and women’s first team games will celebrate women in football, and in sport in general, as we endorse the ‘Her Game Too‘ message. The club is affliated with the #HerGameToo movement, an organisation founded in May 2021 with the aim of raising awareness and educating others on the importance of inclusivity and diversity in sports. Their video above, was viewed hundreds of thousands of times and the quest to eliminate sexism in football had begun! We are proud to be one of hundreds of clubs, in both the professional and semi-professional / grassroots settings, to be affiliated in the UK. Whilst starting within football, and by a group of female football fans spread across the UK, HerGameToo has resonated significantly across the sporting landscape, with like-minded initiatives now set up covering cricket, rugby and ice hockey. The start of the campaign highlighted the inequality felt, particularly by women, in the stands at football grounds across the country. But this is not limited to football supporters on the terraces, we want to see the same acceptance and inclusion on the pitch and behind the scenes. We start the build-up to this weekend by introducing the team of ambassadors and advocates for the club, starting with Samantha Harman who volunteers as matchday volunteer co-ordinator at Gigg Lane. Sam sat down with buryfc.co.uk to answer questions around how she got involved with #HerGameToo. Club #HerGameToo Ambassador, Sam Harman Hello Sam, please can you give a quick introduction of yourself and what involvement you have for Her Game Too? Hi, I’m Sam Harman and I am the club’s Her Game Too ambassador. My role is to work closely with the club and Her Game Too to ensure there is no sexism within the club aimed at female players, fans, or volunteers and to also help promote Her Game Too. What is your main goal as the Her Game Too ambassador for Bury FC and what are your hoping to achieve in your role as ambassador for women who go along to football matches at Bury? My main goal is to ensure that everyone feels included, happy and safe within our club regardless of your sex, sexuality, and beliefs. Every female within the club should feel safe and comfortable when watching or playing football. As a fan-owned club, we want everyone to feel welcome at Gigg Lane. The Her Game Too advocates and I are here for all our female fans and female players to give them the confidence to report to the club and Her Game Too any incidents of sexism that may be aimed towards them in. We also provide free sanitary products in all female toilets at Gigg Lane, and we are also responsible for bringing awareness to our fans about the Her Game Too organisation and what they are doing to help stamp out sexism in all sports. The Her Game Too campaign has really taken off, how pleasing is it to see such a campaign for women especially after seeing recent campaigns like Kick It Out and Rainbow Laces? Her Game Too has really grown over the last few years with lots of clubs, from the Premier League down to non-league, joining and supporting the organisation and it’s reassuring that there is someone to report sexism in sport to. The work that the organisation and each club put in to stamp out sexism in the game is so important. How did you become aware of the Her Game Too campaign? Before becoming the ambassador, I had heard about Her Game Too on social media but when I was asked if I was interested in becoming the Her Game Too ambassador, I started to learn just how important it is to be affiliated with them and what good work they have been doing to curb sexism in all sports and not just football. Why did you decide to get involved in Her Game Too? The club initially asked if I would be interested and of course I jumped at the chance. It is important specially as a fan-owned club that we ensure everyone feels safe when coming to watch games. Have you ever been subjected to any kind of sexism at a football match or on social media yourself? Unfortunately I have been subjected to sexism at matches, home and away, and on social media. I have had comments such as get back in the kitchen and I bet you don’t even know the offside rule. Bury FC Women’s Chloe Greenhall wheels away after scoring at Gigg Lane earlier this season What changes have you seen over the years in the attitudes towards women going to watch football in general? I feel things have improved massively, most people are now much more accepting of women who support or participate in football. We have seen women’s football really grow recently especially with the lionesses winning the Euros and being runners-up in the World Cup. How good is that to see? It’s amazing to see how far women’s football has come over the last few years and it’s good to see how many more grassroot football teams are popping up all over the country. My niece loves football, she is part of the girl’s team who are today’s mascots. How good is it to see Bury FC promote women’s football as much as they do with the men’s team? I love how much our club promote the women’s games and I feel it’s so important to continue doing so, they are a huge part of the Bury FC family. What would you say to any female fan going to football matches who hear things they don’t want to or who are subjected to any sexist abuse? What would you advise them to do? If you hear or are subjected to any sort of sexist abuse or sexism, please report it straight away to the club and Her Game Too; please take this seriously and don’t suffer in silence. The club, myself and Her Game Too take all complaints and discrimination seriously. It’s not just about highlighting sexism and discrimination towards women at football matches but Her Game Too also promotes women’s participation in football too. Yes, that’s correct, Her Game Too was set up to help stamp out sexism and also helps to promote participation in football. This can be as a player, coach, manager or even a match-day official. Her game too are also affiliated with many teams from the Premier League right down to grassroots children’s teams. 20. Dec Daniels (left) was the winner in January In another cracking month of results, we moved up to the top of the league with four wins and a draw. Scoring 10 goals, conceding just four and it could be argued that the players have shared the performances across the games this month. With goalscorers of Briggs, Daniels, Lowe and Burns all getting on the team sheet, as well as us going on a run of three consecutive clean sheets – so kudos to the defensive line and goalkeeper! This will make the decision a tight one for supporters, and means your vote will be an all important one! Who will replace last month’s winner, Dec Daniels, and be presented with a fully liveried Bury FC Hyundai courtesy of BCC Cars for their use for one month as their reward? 22. The time has come to choose your away colours for the 2024/26 seasons. Our current policy is to rotate kits every two years, to reward supporters for buying replica kits and keep them up-to-date for longer. As we started the 2023/24 season with two new kits, home and away, we need to break this rule just once so that home and away kits are changed in alternate years. The current away kit will be kept as a third kit. This means we are now choosing a new away kit for next season, and want help from our members to finalise the design. For a full preview of colours that you will be voting for later in the week and for more information on how to be #PartOfIt please visit the FSSB page here #BuryFC | #ShakersTogether | #PartOfIt View the full article
  23. On Saturday Dave McNabb’s men made it thirteen Nortwest Counties Premier Dvision games undefeated with a 1-0 victory over Glossop North End. We have been on a run that has seen us score 40 goals, score in every game and keep six clean sheets on our way to the top of the table. We currently have a three point cushion over second place Wythenshawe Town with a game in hand. We now focus our attention on their near neighbours and fellow promotion chasers Wythenshawe. In the reverse fixture earlier in the season the spoils were shared in a one all draw with now former Shaker Shakeel Jones-Griffiths scoring our only goal that evening with Wythenshawe leveling up in the 89th minute with a Sam Dikov penalty. This promises to be a fantastic display of NWCFL football as well as being a potential six pointer between two of the leagues in form teams! Get down to Gigg and get behind Dave and the team as we look to extend our lead at the top of the table. Check out the highlights from the weekends game and Dave McNabbs post match interview below. Alcohol Sales Resume At Gigg Lane Restrictions placed on the sale of alcohol during the game have begun to lift. for more information click here In Opposition – Wythenshawe Originally founded in 1946 as Wythenshawe Lads’ Club by Reg Gauntlet, a local window cleaner, gathering together a group of kids kicking a ball about in the street, started playing friendlies, held meetings with parents in a wooden hut in the grounds of Cringlewood House, Yew Tree Lane. They then set up home by hiring a room in an old farmhouse in Daine Avenue, Rackhouse. A couple of years later Noel Timpson, of Timpson Shoes, purchased two ex-WW2 Nissen huts and sited them within the farmhouse grounds. Promotion was gained in May 2018 when the FA allocated the first team to a restructured North West Counties Football League. This meant that the club was competing at semi-professional level for the first time, they finished a creditable fourth in the First Division South in their first season. In 2019 the first team returned to the national stage when they re-entered the FA Vase. The following season 2020-21, they made their debut in the FA Cup, in the Extra Preliminary Round beat Shelley at home 4-2 in a memorable penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in 90 mins, exited in the Preliminary Round v. Trafford at home 1-4. The first full season, 2021-22, following two coronavirus pandemic hit seasons, they reached the NWCFL Division One South play-offs, losing to FC Isle of Man in the semi-finals. They improved on that the following season, 2022-23, arguably the clubs most successful, with a first team double, winning automatic promotion to the Premier Division by becoming champions, their first ever semi-professional title, then adding the First Division Champions Cup, reserves won the Altrincham District FA Senior Cup, Sunday team champions of the Stockport Sunday League, Division Two. Junior section won a club record 13 trophies. Sacha Lord, co-founder of the music festival Parklife and The Warehouse Project, in April 2023 joined the Board and installed as Chair in June. Barratt, appointed as Chair in 2019, remained on the Board as Vice-Chair. In June 2023, the club changed its name, dropping ‘Amateurs’, becoming Wythenshawe Football Club, with the playing name Wythenshawe.
