  4. Our away game at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium on Saturday 20th April for the final game of the regular season against Ramsbottom United is now sold out with all 2000 tickets being snapped up. Since the fixtures were released last summer, many Bury fans have had their eye on getting a ticket for this keenly anticipated game and we are delighted to say that The Shakers allocation of 1500 tickets has now completely sold out with more than a week to go before the game. We look forward to a great day out in front of our phenomenal travelling Bury Support. #BuryFC | #PartOfIt View the full article
  5. This is not a drill. There are only three games left of our regular North West Counties Premier Division fixture list. We start the final three this coming Thursday evening as we, finally, host Ramsbottom United under the Gigg Lane lights after three previous postponements due to weather in the first of two fixtures against our near neighbours in 10 days. This will be the first time that the Shakers and The Rams will have EVER met in a league encounter in both clubs histories so it has all the making to be a cracker of a derby as we continue our promotion push. Ramsbottom, who currently sit at 18th in the Premier Division table, will make the five mile journey down the A56 coming off the back of their first win in 6 following three defeats and two draws. Last time we met The Rams it was in the second round of The Macron Cup where a 94th minute goal from Skipper Tom Moore made sure the match went into extra time and eventually penalties with The Shakers coming out on top in the shootout. You can see the highlights from that game here. In our last fixture Dave McNabb’s men came out three nil winners over an AFC Liverpool side who never really looked to threaten Harry Wrights goal, with goals coming from Andy Briggs and Max Harrop who bagged his first two goals since returning to BL9 We spoke to Dave, Max and recent signing Aaron Morris following the game and you can see those interviews, as well as the highlights from that game, below AFC Liverpool Post-Match with Dave McNabb AFC Liverpool Post-Match Interviews Match Highlights – AFC Liverpool (H) For all the details of this big local derby as we finally meet in the league, can be found below in the full match information pack. Head down for opposition details, tickets, parking and live match coverage. In Opposition – Ramsbottom United Beginning life in 1966, Ramsbottom United began life as a local amateur side building a junior setup that remains an integral part of the club over 50 years later. You can’t say Ramsbottom United without immediately thinking of current (and forever!) Chairman Harry Williams. Involved from the start, you can still find Harry behind the scenes on a matchday, whether it be in the ticket booth, or dishing out pies in the food hut. A stalwart of the club and ex-manager of the first team (1966-1985), who’s name adorns the stadium that the Rams have been based at since 1980. We continue to wish him well after a recent fall has meant some time in recovery. We certainly hope he is well enough to visit Gigg Lane for this special local fixture. Following success in both Bury Amateur and Bolton Combination leagues through the late 60s and 70s, the club made the step up into the Manchester League in 1989 before applying to join the NWCFL in the mid-90s. The ground received its grading, with the club gaining promotion from Division Two in 1997, at the same point as they acquired floodlights from local rugby side, Oldham Rugby League Club. The Rams remained competitive until tradegy struck in 2001 when manager of the time, Ken Bridge, collapsed and died following a game against Cheadle Town. This stunted some of the club’s progress, before in 2009, Harry handed the reins to players at the time – Bernard Morley and Anthony Johnson, for their first tilt at management. They made their name in fine style, earning promotion for the first time to the NPL in 2012. Further progression and development of both the ground and playing squad occurred and after just two seasons at the elevated level, they achieved a further promotion following a play-off campaign which first overcame favourites Darlington and then Bamber Bridge to reach the third tier for the first time. Bernard and Jonno left for the ‘Class of ’92’ and Salford City later that year, sending the club in a spin which they were unable to turn around until ex-player Chris Wilcox was appointed in October 2018. An FA Trophy run into the last-16, defeated only by high-flying AFC Fylde, was a highlight for the Willcock’s tenure which without the onset of Covid-19 would no doubt have earned the club a further promotion in that period. Willcock moved on in 2021 to Workington and the club’s results faltered afterwards, with Lee Donafee struggling to maintain a position in the top half of the league and being replaced, with incumbant David Chadwick unable to keep the Rams in the NPL, with the side slipping back into the NWCFL last summer. 10. We already know that we will be playing on the road in yellow and blue for the next two terms, as voted for by our members a few weeks ago. More recently FSSB Members have been voting for the design on our next away kit which will be manufactured by our friends over at Hope+Glory! Well, the votes are in, the numbers have been crunched and we are delighted to announce that there was only one clear winner. From 1,715 ballots sent out and 918 votes cast kit option THREE ran away with the votes, with 46% of members having it down as their first choice with the scores fairly evenly split amongst the other designs. These will be available for pre-order from Monday 22nd April at the Hope+Glory Bury FC Online Store. In the same ballot FSSB members also voted on the general policy for season ticket refunds, you can read more about that here. #ShakersTogether | #BuryFC | #PartofIt View the full article
  11. As well as holding our recent kit vote, FSSB members also voted on our general season ticket refund policy. We had 918 ballots returned from 1,715 individual emails issued. 91% of voters approved the general policy for season ticket refunds. 586 voted in favour and 59 were against. 273 abstained, a larger than usual number representing members who are not season ticket holders and did not vote on this issue. This was also reflected in the preferential vote where a cash refund was the least popular option, with only 62 people ranking it as their first choice option. A huge 49% of voters offered to waive any form of refund as their first choice option, which won the vote once second, third and fourth options were also factored in. There was little demand for a discount on next season’s season ticket, slightly more than the requests for a cash refund, and some support for free entry to play-off games. We will review these results and assess what we do next. We are not avoiding cash refunds where they are requested but it is heartwarming to see that the vast majority of over 90% of supporters are not interested in a refund at all, and certainly not a cash refund. This gives us the predictable financial security we need heading into the close season, after what has been an extremely damaging month for the club’s revenues. Running the Gigg Lane stadium is a significant financial burden and the terrible weather this winter has cost us many tens of thousands of pounds in maintenance fees and lost revenues through postponements. Forcing the club to play behind closed doors would have put the club under significant financial duress again if supporters had not indicated that they were happy to waive refunds, and we would like to thank all of you for your generosity of spirit. It is clear that this club belongs to you. We do not expect the weather to play a part in future with a 3G pitch in place. It’s critical to our progress. We do, however, need to ensure that supporter behaviour does not affect the club’s future. We are continuously being scrutinised by the Manchester FA for the conduct of our supporters. Should any further allegations arise, we are putting ourselves at risk of further severe sanctions, which really do threaten our existence. Despite repeated issues, we still struggle to convince a very small number of people of the consequences of poor fan behaviour and their personal responsibility for it. We know, however, that most Bury fans do understand and we remain extremely grateful for your support in the many forms you provide. In the same ballot FSSB members also voted on our away kit for the coming two seasons, you can read more about that here. #ShakersTogether | #BuryFC | #PartofIt View the full article
  12. It was three points for Dave McNabb’s Barmy Army on the Road at Adie Moran Park this past weekend as a brace of wonder goals from super sub Conner Comber made sure that all three points came back up Manchester Road to Bury. You can re live all the action from what was a fantastic North west Counties Premier Division battle in our match highlights below. We now have only four games remaining in our league campaign and our eyes are still fully set on promotion to the Northern Premier League. We start our final four with a visit from mid table AFC Liverpool who currently sit 13th in the table with 17 wins, 5 draws and 21 defeats chalked up this season. In our last encounter at the Marine Travel Arena The Shakers took all three points courtesy of two first half goals from Andy Briggs and Dec Daniels. With the weather forecasted to be “wet” over the next couple of days we will be working with the North West Pitch Maintenance team as always to make sure the playing surface is ready for play and will share updates across our website, social media platforms and by email should there be any doubt about the game going ahead. We hope to see another bumper crowd down at Gigg to cheer the lads on and get behind us as we continue our fight for promotion. Else where in the league we are sure that fans will be keeping an eye on fellow promotion chasers Wythenshawe FC who host Pilkington and Wythenshawe Town who travel to West Didsbury & Chorlton. We are offering free entry to our Armed Forces for our game against AFC Liverpool this weekend please see the “Ticketing & Admission” section further down the page for more information on how to be #PartOfIt. Match Highlights Post Match Interview With Dave McNabb Post Match Player Interviews In Opposition – AFC Liverpool AFC Liverpool was formed in 2008 by 1,000 Liverpool FC fans who had become increasingly frustrated at the cost and difficulty in obtaining tickets for Premier League matches. The mooted ‘39th game’, in which Premier League fixtures would be played in different parts of the world, proved to be the final straw as it clearly highlighted that those who ran top flight football were more concerned with money than its fans. A website was created and, with the response being positive, work began to move to the next stage and create a steering group to make the club a reality. At the beginning of March 2008, AFC Liverpool was officially formed and it was made clear that the club was not in any way a response to the contentious ownership issue at Anfield or as a protest against Liverpool Football Club. It was a response to issues at the top end of football in general. Originally ground-sharing with Prescot Cables, and accepted into the North West Counties, they won 10 of their opening 11 games, consolidating their position in the league for the first three seasons. AFC Liverpool benefitted from clubs being demoted and expelled from the league in 2011, accepting their position in the Premier Division for the 2011-12 season. They stayed in the First Division North again until 2021, when the results of the two curtailed COVID seasons were used to re-structure the leagues. AFC Liverpool again benefitted from a strong set of results and resumed in the Premier Division from the 2021-22 season. 22. We are pleased to confirm that we have now signed the contract to install a 3G pitch at Gigg Lane this summer. We understand the frustration supporters feel around frequent match postponements due to the poor condition of the grass pitch this season. It is important that we maintain a focus on the long term success of the club. An artificial surface means that we can grow the reach of the club by bringing the wider community into Gigg Lane, make the stadium more financially sustainable, and build a base from which all of our teams can train and play, giving players the consistency and familiarity they need to succeed. Payment will be made in phases as the work progresses. The initial payment will be met by the Society reserves and we will receive matched funding of £300,000 from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities. This will utilise the full £1m available from their Community Ownership Fund. We will also draw down funding from Bury Council who are contributing £450,000, as approved by their Cabinet recently. We are finalising a Community Development Plan with Bury Council which will commit us to a programme of work in the borough designed to maximise community usage of the stadium through a diverse number of initiatives, not just football. Our objective for the new season is to retain a strong balance sheet and drive greater revenue through pitch hire, which will be limited to 50 hours per week to protect the surface over the next 8 years. As highlighted in our previous statement, a significant amount of this revenue will be allocated to a sinking fund to replace the pitch when required, be it another artificial surface or a return to grass. At this stage of the season we know there is a focus on results with the ultimate aim of promotion. Football provides us with an opportunity to live in the moment, and we don’t want to dampen the joy that those moments bring to our supporters. Off the pitch, however, we remain relentless in our pursuit of a bigger, longer term objective to maximise the potential of the club in all areas. We also recognise that the grass pitch has a specific place in many supporters’ hearts. Not least those who have the ashes of their loved ones scattered there. With this in mind we would like to confirm the following: We will hold a ceremony at Gigg Lane for anyone who has had the ashes of a the friends or relatives scattered there, to allow them to say a farewell once more. Details of the ceremony will be announced as soon as we have the date. We will sell up to 500 pieces of turf from the Gigg Lane pitch, presented in seed boxes, to raise funds for the club and allow supporters to own a little piece of history. The dimensions will be 344mm x 214mm x 52mm and the first pieces bought will also receive a free copy of James Bentley’s book on Bury Football Club ‘Things Can Only Get Better: Bury’s Mid-90s Rise Under Stan Ternent’. We are grateful to James for this donation. There will also be a raffle for the two penalty spots. Further details will follow. Artificial grass is not as environmentally friendly as real grass. We believe the good we can do throughout the community outweighs the cost overall, but we do recognise our responsibilities to the environment. We are grateful to our shirt sleeve sponsors, Redfox Countryside Services, specialists in ecological management and restoration services, who have offered their services to help develop Starkies Wood, next to Gigg Lane, in a way which will contribute towards eventually making this project carbon neutral. The stadium is one of the oldest in Britain, and it would be wrong to pretend that carbon neutrality is easily achievable, but this is one step in that direction and we are extremely grateful for the thoughtful and unprompted offer of support from Redfox Countryside Services on this matter. It would require Council approval. There is also an early stage idea around a commemorative garden using the centre spot. The sight and smell of a grass pitch is something we all have imprinted in our footballing DNA. Our move to an artificial surface is a rational one, supported by an overwhelming 92% majority of our members. That doesn’t mean we don’t recognise the past and our emotional connection to it through places such as Gigg Lane. We hope this note shows an acknowledgment of that. It is just the start of many ideas and initiatives for the forthcoming months. As always, keep across the latest from the club on the website, X / Twitter & Facebook. 23. We are delighted to confirm the deadline day signings of Aaron Morris and Tanaka Cherera. Defender Morris joins the club from FC United of Manchester. His first taste of non-league football was in for St Helens Town before moving to Runcorn Linnets in 2016 and then FC United, three years later. Aaron was a fans favourite at Linnets as he was awarded the Supporters Club Player of the Year on two occasions. In July 2022, Dave McNabb signed Aaron at Warrington Rylands where he made seven appearances, before returning to FC United where’s he’s not made an appearance this season due to injury. Forward Cherera joins the club from AFC Liverpool. The 19-year-old has made nine appearances for AFC Liverpool, scoring six goals. He can play either out wide or as a striker, who offers pace and an eye for goal. Prior to signing in Crosby, he played for Roma (not the Italian side) & Pex Hill in the Liverpool local leagues. Both signings are subject to NWCFL approval. View the full article

  25. We head into the final five games following an agonising finale to our Good Friday battle with Wythenshawe at Gigg Lane. Saturdays game saw us draw with our promotion rivals after a penalty given in the dying seconds of eight additional added minutes handed Wythenshawe a point and a boost in the race for the title. We now turn to Easter Monday and a trip to Adie Moran park where we will take on playoff chasers Prestwich Heys. Heys have won four of their last six and will be looking to put pressure on fellow playoff contenders Padiham and Chadderton who sit just above them in the Premier Division table. Dave McNabb’s charges will be looking to reverse the trend set in the last four games and get back to winning ways on the road after run which has seen us fall to two defeats and draw tow in our last six. The away allocation for this game is sold out and our volunteers will be on the gates helping scan fans in on the day. We advise fans to please not travel to Adie Moran park without a valid ticket. As always Roch valley Radio will be with us to provide commentary on the day and you will be able to keep up with all the action on our social media pages across the afternoon. Highlights and post match interviews from Gaz Peet and Max Harrop are available below. Last Time Out – Prestwich (h) Opponents – Prestwich Heys The origins of Prestwich Heys AFC can be traced back to 9th February 1938 when a meeting was called at the Music Room of the Heys Road Boys’ School at which Elgar Lumsden put forward the idea of forming an Old Boys’ Association. Despite the onset of the Second World War a year later, the Association flourished under the Chairmanship of Proctor Bell, who also acted as Secretary of the football arm, known as Heys Old Boys AFC, and was acknowledged as one of the region’s best. The team gradually progressed through the Bury Amateur League and in to the South East Lancashire League claiming Championships in 1960, 1961 and 1964. Under the guidance of Peter Gilmore in the sixties, Heys won the prestigious Lancashire Amateur Cup in 1967 followed by the one and only Lancashire Combination Grand Slam in the 1970/71 season with Heys bringing all four trophies available back to Grimshaws. The club also changed its name in 1964 to Prestwich Heys AFC, an acknowledgement of the fame achieved by the club as they proved one of the nation’s top amateur clubs. Thousands flocked to see Heys play, and beat, the likes of Sutton United, Ferryhill Athletic, Finchley and Highgate United in the FA Amateur Cup with the club’s best run taking Hey’s to the last 16. The victory over Sutton United in 1969 ranks as one of Heys most famous moments, attracting nationwide coverage, coming a week before their opponents were due to meet Leeds United in the FA Cup. The above has been taken from the history section of the Prestwich Heys website, read more here. In more recent seasons, Heys re-entered the NWCFL in 2017 (following a stint in the divisions in the early-80s) before gaining promotion to the Premier Division during the covid league re-shuffle in 2021. The side finished 7th last season, and are looking to improve on that this season, comfortably sitting inside the play-off positions going into the festive period.
