  4. Well, it all comes down to this. Two games to define a season. A crazy season, including points deductions, a number of postponements due to weather, behind closed doors fixtures and now to top it all off, a change of home venue to get the game ON! Saturday’s postponement of our game against Padiham, came less than 48 hours after the previous game had ended. This did see us victorious over neighbours Ramsbottom United under rainy Bury skies at Gigg Lane, but ultimately on top of a surface struggling to cope with the rigours it was being put through. As manager Dave McNabb explained in his summary video, Thursday night’s game has left the pitch in an unplayable condition and we have a forecast of more wet weather to come. With the season end rapidly approaching, the club agreed with the league on a venue switch late on Saturday evening. FC United’s Broadhurst Park coming to the rescue at the eleventh hour. We thank the ‘Red Rebels‘, who have returned the favour following their groundshare with the Shakers from 2005-2014. Amazingly, FC United’s first league game at Gigg Lane in the summer of 2005 was against non-other than our opponents at Broadhurst Park this week, Padiham. And what a crucial game to take to north-east Manchester. With both Wythenshawe sides ahead of the Shakers in the league going into the weekend, failing to win their respective games against Chadderton and Burscough, the door has cracked open for a late title charge. Two wins lands us top spot and the league title. Where would you rather be on Tuesday night? Be #PartofIt with our match information below. Match Highlights – Ramsbottom Utd Post Match Interviews In Opposition – Padiham FC Founded in November 1878, Padiham Football Club, initially known as the ‘Caldersiders’, quickly became one of Lancashire’s soccer pioneers and a prominent team in England. The club was a founding member of the Lancashire Football Association’s Senior Cup in 1879 and achieved success in the F.A. Cup during the 1883-84 season. Their early encounters included significant victories over Burnley F.C. and matches drawing crowds exceeding 2,000 at their original ground near River Calder, leased from the Shuttleworth family. However, the establishment of the Football League and the legalization of professionalism in football shifted the competitive landscape, leading to a decline in Padiham’s fortunes. The club struggled to attract skilled players and financial constraints forced them into lower leagues. World War One halted their activities, and they remained inactive until their revival in 1949 at the Arbories Memorial Sports Ground. Over the years, Padiham saw various league changes and spent significant funds on ground upgrades. They rejoined the North West Counties Football League in 2000, won the Premier Division in 2013, and after a brief stint in the Northern Premier League, returned to the North West Counties League in 2015. This season has seen the ‘Storks’ make a late charge at the play-offs, after only two losses in the last 10 they sit in 7th going into the game. Wins in all three final games would see them in with a very good shout of playing in the post-season, so all to play for. Highlights of our game at Padiham in summery August conditions can be found below. 5. We head to Broadhurst Park, home of FC United of Manchester, this coming Tuesday 16th April to take on Padiham in our penultimate game of the season. Kick-off is 7.45pm. The top-of-the-table really opened up over weekend, making our game in hand over the top two a crucial one. Two wins will win us the league. We want you there to cheer the lads on. As indicated in our release yesterday, we are now able to share more details on how it will work. Tickets & Admission Tickets already purchased for the game, be that season tickets, hospitality tickets, general admission tickets or matchday programmes will all remain valid for this fixture. Our matchday turnstile operators will be on hand to scan in your tickets as usual. We are working on the best solution for those with 1885 / hospitality tickets and hope to provide a separate update to those supporters on Monday following a meeting with FC United. We will make tickets available to buy online on Monday, with capacity having now been confirmed at 4,900. All tickets issued will be unreserved, with access available to all areas of the ground upon entry. The ground will be open from 6.30pm, with early arrival suggested for those who wish to be seated in the 500 available seats. We would appreciate supporters showing courtesy to those with greater difficulty standing. Tickets will be on sale until 6pm on the day of the game, so to guarantee entry make sure you purchase your ticket in advance. A pay-on-the-gate turnstile will be made available on the night, up to the available capacity. Padiham supporters are requested to purchase away supporter tickets and upon arrival, stewards and staff will direct you to the correct turnstile. More details on this will follow ahead of the game on Tuesday. Travel & Transport FC United have provided their stadium Travel Plan, which is accessed here. As at Gigg Lane, the car park at Broadhurst Park will be made available for officials, players, staff and for those with mobility issues. To contact about this, please email here. Parking for hospitality guests (1885 Suite ticket holders) as offered at Gigg Lane, will unfortunately not be available at Broadhurst Park and we apologise for this inconvenience. Parking elsewhere is limited to the roadside along Lightbowne Road. Please do not park along St Mary’s Road or the streets accessed from there, which are to be saved for residents. There are a number of public transport options including a local tram stop at Newton Heath & Moston (around a mile walk from the ground), train station at Moston (under a mile from the ground), as well as several bus services from Manchester which alight on St Mary’s Road close to the ground or along Moston Lane, which is a five minute walk away. Please check out the details on timings of services before you travel here at Transport for Greater Manchester. Recognising the impact this change of venue will have on some supporters who only travel locally, the club are putting on two coaches free of charge. This will be for those supporters who would otherwise struggle to get to the game at Broadhurst Park. These coaches will leave Gigg Lane at approx. 6pm on Tuesday evening, returning back to Gigg Lane after the game. Further details will be provided during Monday. We stress that this offer should only be taken up by those who could not get to the game otherwise, giving all supporters the chance of being at the game. You won’t miss any of the action! The stream will cost £6.99 (inc. VAT) and will be available on the day of the game. 6. Our game with Padiham has now been arranged for this coming Tuesday evening, 16th April with a 7.45pm kick-off. This time with a change of venue. Our friends at FC United of Manchester have offered their Broadhurst Park ground for the night, with the pitch at Gigg Lane currently unplayable following today’s postponement. With all fixtures to be completed by Saturday 20th April, and with risk of a further weather related postponement on Tuesday, the club sourced alternative arrangements over the weekend and thank FC United for their generosity and speed to turn this around in such a short timeframe. The ground capacity at Broadhurst Park is 4,400 so can accommodate a large midweek crowd. We realise this may have a significant impact on some supporters. Further details will be provided as soon as possible regarding admission, travel details and watching the game on a stream. All season tickets, and previously bought matchday tickets will be valid as usual. There is no need to buy new tickets. More details will follow in the coming days, and we thank supporters for their patience while these are put in place and able to be communicated. #BuryFC | #PartOfIt View the full article

  8. There will be a pitch inspection at 11:15 am due to concerns over the playing surface at Gigg Lane. Concerns were raised before Thursday’s game and due to weather before and during the game the pitch deteriorated quite badly, with only light remedial work having taken place yesterday due the pitch condition. We want to make sure that the surface is both safe and playable for both teams. If the pitch is deemed playable tickets will go back on sale for the South Stand, with pay on the day available in the Cemetery End. We will update as soon as we can after the referee has inspected the pitch. 11. Well it’s been some season and the final league home match of our first campaign back in our Gigg Lane home is now upon us as we welcome Padiham FC to Gigg Lane. With just one point separating the top three clubs in the league and all three sides having only two fixtures remaining it’s still very much all to play for as we continue our hunt for promotion to the Northern Premier League. We last met Padiham back in August where goals from the now departed Jack Lenehan and Darius Palma sealed all three points from the Shakers. We’ve been on a long journey through the NWCFL Premier Division since then and we are a much changed side with only three players from the match day squad of sixteen remaining at Gigg Lane. (Andy Briggs, Connor Comber and Gaz Peet) This could be your last chance to cheers the lads on at Gigg Lane this season (depending on our final position) So we want to see the ground BOUNCING! Get down in numbers, bring your friends, bring your family… Bring as many as you can and create the same phenomenal atmosphere you have all season! As you have seen, South Stand tickets for the last couple of home games have sold out so if you plan to sit there this weekend head over to our ticket portal and secure yours now! Speaking of the last couple of games, we came out 2-1 winners on Thursday evening in a hard fought battle in less than ideal circumstances against near neighbours Ramsbottom United. You can check out the highlights and post match interviews from that game below. 16. This is not a drill. There are only three games left of our regular North West Counties Premier Division fixture list. We start the final three this coming Thursday evening as we, finally, host Ramsbottom United under the Gigg Lane lights after three previous postponements due to weather in the first of two fixtures against our near neighbours in 10 days. This will be the first time that the Shakers and The Rams will have EVER met in a league encounter in both clubs histories so it has all the making to be a cracker of a derby as we continue our promotion push. Ramsbottom, who currently sit at 18th in the Premier Division table, will make the five mile journey down the A56 coming off the back of their first win in 6 following three defeats and two draws. Last time we met The Rams it was in the second round of The Macron Cup where a 94th minute goal from Skipper Tom Moore made sure the match went into extra time and eventually penalties with The Shakers coming out on top in the shootout. You can see the highlights from that game here. In our last fixture Dave McNabb’s men came out three nil winners over an AFC Liverpool side who never really looked to threaten Harry Wrights goal, with goals coming from Andy Briggs and Max Harrop who bagged his first two goals since returning to BL9 We spoke to Dave, Max and recent signing Aaron Morris following the game and you can see those interviews, as well as the highlights from that game, below AFC Liverpool Post-Match with Dave McNabb AFC Liverpool Post-Match Interviews Match Highlights – AFC Liverpool (H) For all the details of this big local derby as we finally meet in the league, can be found below in the full match information pack. Head down for opposition details, tickets, parking and live match coverage. In Opposition – Ramsbottom United Beginning life in 1966, Ramsbottom United began life as a local amateur side building a junior setup that remains an integral part of the club over 50 years later. You can’t say Ramsbottom United without immediately thinking of current (and forever!) Chairman Harry Williams. Involved from the start, you can still find Harry behind the scenes on a matchday, whether it be in the ticket booth, or dishing out pies in the food hut. A stalwart of the club and ex-manager of the first team (1966-1985), who’s name adorns the stadium that the Rams have been based at since 1980. We continue to wish him well after a recent fall has meant some time in recovery. We certainly hope he is well enough to visit Gigg Lane for this special local fixture. Following success in both Bury Amateur and Bolton Combination leagues through the late 60s and 70s, the club made the step up into the Manchester League in 1989 before applying to join the NWCFL in the mid-90s. The ground received its grading, with the club gaining promotion from Division Two in 1997, at the same point as they acquired floodlights from local rugby side, Oldham Rugby League Club. The Rams remained competitive until tradegy struck in 2001 when manager of the time, Ken Bridge, collapsed and died following a game against Cheadle Town. This stunted some of the club’s progress, before in 2009, Harry handed the reins to players at the time – Bernard Morley and Anthony Johnson, for their first tilt at management. They made their name in fine style, earning promotion for the first time to the NPL in 2012. Further progression and development of both the ground and playing squad occurred and after just two seasons at the elevated level, they achieved a further promotion following a play-off campaign which first overcame favourites Darlington and then Bamber Bridge to reach the third tier for the first time. Bernard and Jonno left for the ‘Class of ’92’ and Salford City later that year, sending the club in a spin which they were unable to turn around until ex-player Chris Wilcox was appointed in October 2018. An FA Trophy run into the last-16, defeated only by high-flying AFC Fylde, was a highlight for the Willcock’s tenure which without the onset of Covid-19 would no doubt have earned the club a further promotion in that period. Willcock moved on in 2021 to Workington and the club’s results faltered afterwards, with Lee Donafee struggling to maintain a position in the top half of the league and being replaced, with incumbant David Chadwick unable to keep the Rams in the NPL, with the side slipping back into the NWCFL last summer. 21. We already know that we will be playing on the road in yellow and blue for the next two terms, as voted for by our members a few weeks ago. More recently FSSB Members have been voting for the design on our next away kit which will be manufactured by our friends over at Hope+Glory! Well, the votes are in, the numbers have been crunched and we are delighted to announce that there was only one clear winner. From 1,715 ballots sent out and 918 votes cast kit option THREE ran away with the votes, with 46% of members having it down as their first choice with the scores fairly evenly split amongst the other designs. These will be available for pre-order from Monday 22nd April at the Hope+Glory Bury FC Online Store. In the same ballot FSSB members also voted on the general policy for season ticket refunds, you can read more about that here. #ShakersTogether | #BuryFC | #PartofIt View the full article
  22. As well as holding our recent kit vote, FSSB members also voted on our general season ticket refund policy. We had 918 ballots returned from 1,715 individual emails issued. 91% of voters approved the general policy for season ticket refunds. 586 voted in favour and 59 were against. 273 abstained, a larger than usual number representing members who are not season ticket holders and did not vote on this issue. This was also reflected in the preferential vote where a cash refund was the least popular option, with only 62 people ranking it as their first choice option. A huge 49% of voters offered to waive any form of refund as their first choice option, which won the vote once second, third and fourth options were also factored in. There was little demand for a discount on next season’s season ticket, slightly more than the requests for a cash refund, and some support for free entry to play-off games. We will review these results and assess what we do next. We are not avoiding cash refunds where they are requested but it is heartwarming to see that the vast majority of over 90% of supporters are not interested in a refund at all, and certainly not a cash refund. This gives us the predictable financial security we need heading into the close season, after what has been an extremely damaging month for the club’s revenues. Running the Gigg Lane stadium is a significant financial burden and the terrible weather this winter has cost us many tens of thousands of pounds in maintenance fees and lost revenues through postponements. Forcing the club to play behind closed doors would have put the club under significant financial duress again if supporters had not indicated that they were happy to waive refunds, and we would like to thank all of you for your generosity of spirit. It is clear that this club belongs to you. We do not expect the weather to play a part in future with a 3G pitch in place. It’s critical to our progress. We do, however, need to ensure that supporter behaviour does not affect the club’s future. We are continuously being scrutinised by the Manchester FA for the conduct of our supporters. Should any further allegations arise, we are putting ourselves at risk of further severe sanctions, which really do threaten our existence. Despite repeated issues, we still struggle to convince a very small number of people of the consequences of poor fan behaviour and their personal responsibility for it. We know, however, that most Bury fans do understand and we remain extremely grateful for your support in the many forms you provide. In the same ballot FSSB members also voted on our away kit for the coming two seasons, you can read more about that here. #ShakersTogether | #BuryFC | #PartofIt View the full article
  23. It was three points for Dave McNabb’s Barmy Army on the Road at Adie Moran Park this past weekend as a brace of wonder goals from super sub Conner Comber made sure that all three points came back up Manchester Road to Bury. You can re live all the action from what was a fantastic North west Counties Premier Division battle in our match highlights below. We now have only four games remaining in our league campaign and our eyes are still fully set on promotion to the Northern Premier League. We start our final four with a visit from mid table AFC Liverpool who currently sit 13th in the table with 17 wins, 5 draws and 21 defeats chalked up this season. In our last encounter at the Marine Travel Arena The Shakers took all three points courtesy of two first half goals from Andy Briggs and Dec Daniels. With the weather forecasted to be “wet” over the next couple of days we will be working with the North West Pitch Maintenance team as always to make sure the playing surface is ready for play and will share updates across our website, social media platforms and by email should there be any doubt about the game going ahead. We hope to see another bumper crowd down at Gigg to cheer the lads on and get behind us as we continue our fight for promotion. Else where in the league we are sure that fans will be keeping an eye on fellow promotion chasers Wythenshawe FC who host Pilkington and Wythenshawe Town who travel to West Didsbury & Chorlton. We are offering free entry to our Armed Forces for our game against AFC Liverpool this weekend please see the “Ticketing & Admission” section further down the page for more information on how to be #PartOfIt. Match Highlights Post Match Interview With Dave McNabb Post Match Player Interviews In Opposition – AFC Liverpool AFC Liverpool was formed in 2008 by 1,000 Liverpool FC fans who had become increasingly frustrated at the cost and difficulty in obtaining tickets for Premier League matches. The mooted ‘39th game’, in which Premier League fixtures would be played in different parts of the world, proved to be the final straw as it clearly highlighted that those who ran top flight football were more concerned with money than its fans. A website was created and, with the response being positive, work began to move to the next stage and create a steering group to make the club a reality. At the beginning of March 2008, AFC Liverpool was officially formed and it was made clear that the club was not in any way a response to the contentious ownership issue at Anfield or as a protest against Liverpool Football Club. It was a response to issues at the top end of football in general. Originally ground-sharing with Prescot Cables, and accepted into the North West Counties, they won 10 of their opening 11 games, consolidating their position in the league for the first three seasons. AFC Liverpool benefitted from clubs being demoted and expelled from the league in 2011, accepting their position in the Premier Division for the 2011-12 season. They stayed in the First Division North again until 2021, when the results of the two curtailed COVID seasons were used to re-structure the leagues. AFC Liverpool again benefitted from a strong set of results and resumed in the Premier Division from the 2021-22 season.
