Behind Closed Doors Ticket Update
We have set in motion the process to refund single tickets bought for the games played behind closed doors, as we have an existing process via our ticketing company for this. Season tickets do not have an equivalent process. Unfortunately, on a practical level it is impossible for us to offer a straight forward refund for season ticket holders. It would require us to gather and hold everyone’s bank details and take many months to process, as we do not hold bank or card details for supporters. We don’t have the resources to pay refunds promptly, and it poses a security risk if we hold bank details for a significant period of time. This is another reason why we would have preferred a fine, rather than a stadium closure. For this reason our preferred options are: A large number of supporters have told us they want us to keep the money. We are obviously grateful for this and hope the ability to live stream both games behind closed doors offered some value in return. We have also been asked about donations to compensate for loss of revenue. We would prefer supporters to waive form of credit than donate money at this stage. There is a possibility we may need to navigate our way through the play-offs. This would give us at least one additional home game and maybe other tickets which we could add into the season ticket in lieu of the games missed. If the above options are not taken, we will offer a ‘gift card’ which supporters can use to offset the cost of next season ticket or against any other single tickets including friendlies and cup games. This also allows us to spread the financial burden over a number of months, and we are able to administer it, as it offers credit and doesn’t require a bank transfer. We appreciate some supporters may prefer a straight forward refund but on a practical level we cannot manage this process en masse. Clearly the options above require an assessment of the situation at the end of the season, so are not immediate. We have a member vote coming soon on the away kit design for next season and will include an advisory vote on this matter to allow members to approve or reject the broad policy stated above. Thank you for your continued support. Neil Sears General Manager & CEO View the full article

GAME OFF: Ramsbottom United (H)
The Gigg Lane pitch today We are sad to report that following heavy down pours overnight, our game with Ramsbottom United due to take place this evening, has once again succumbed to the weather. A local referee was called in this afternoon when concerns were raised about the surface when reviewed this morning, despite clearer weather forecast. It has been no secret that the pitch at Gigg Lane has suffered considerably through the wet winter period. There have been regular postponements within this time, with water often sat on the surface and the pitch struggling to drain without the benefit of a long period to dry out. The effort to get games on has been considerable, with ground staff working up against it on many occassions. Playing two home games over the last Tuesday and Saturday, has led to significant deterioration. The rain falling during the game on Saturday, as well as the significant down pours overnight have left the surface unplayable. Works to improve the surface between now and our next game on Easter Saturday are ongoing. We are all praying for less rain at the same time! Another new date for this fixture will be confirmed in due course, and tickets will be valid for the rearranged fixture. View the full article

Incoming: The Gaffer Adds Two
As we head into the final few games of the season Dave McNabb has added two players to bolster his squad in the push for promotion. Max Harrop Firstly we would like to welcome back to Gigg Lane, midfielder Max Harrop, who signs from Avro. Max Harrop is a name that will be familiar to Shakers fans as he played in the Bury Youth system going on to make first-team appearances in the Football League between 2010 – 2013. Max has gone on to play at several clubs around non-league spending a considerable spell at Altrincham in the National League. Max will no doubt add another level of technical skill and ability to Dave McNabb’s midfield. Keenan Ferguson The talented 22-year-old spent time in the Academies at Sheffield United and Tottenham Hotspur in his younger days before joining Boston after starring during a pre-season trial in 2021, he moved on to Spennymoor in June of 2023. Ferguson went on to become a mainstay in The Pilgrims’ line-up during his debut campaign, operating on the right and the left as they made it to the National League North Promotion Final. A hard-working defender with the ability to get forward and supply crosses into the box, Ferguson will no doubt be a great addition down the right. We hope that you will give them both a massive Bury welcome. The signings are subject to league approval and we hope to have them available to face Ramsbottom as we continue our push for promotion. We would like to thank both of the player’s former clubs for assisting in getting the signings over the line. On another note, we say goodbye to Harry Brockbank who departs back to Radcliffe, following the end of his 28-day loan. We thank Harry for all his efforts whilst turning out for the Shakers. #BuryFC | #PartOfIt View the full article

Match Info: Ramsbottom United (H), Tue 19th Mar, 7.45 pm KO
We go again! And we try again, for the third time in fact, as we have the visit of Ramsbottom United this Tuesday under the Gigg Lane lights. Dave McNabb’s squad will be keen to put matters right after a disappointing week which only yielded a single point from our three games, and set us up against it in the battle for top spot. But battle they must, and with fans returning to the stands, the players won’t be short of encouragement following the frustration of having to miss out on two big games on the run-in. Dec Daniels hobbled off and will be a doubt for this Bury derby game, but the return of Andy Briggs as a second half substitute this weekend would have brought smiles to the Shakers faithful. The manager mentioned Briggs’ impact in his post-match interview, available below. You can also catch up with our first competitive match-up with the Rams earlier this season, with our highlights of the penalty win in the Macron Cup also below. Post-Match with Dave McNabb Last Time Out – Ramsbottom United (a) For all the details of this big local derby as we finally meet in the league, can be found below in the full match information pack. Head down for opposition details, tickets, parking and live match coverage. In Opposition – Ramsbottom United Beginning life in 1966, Ramsbottom United began life as a local amateur side building a junior setup that remains an integral part of the club over 50 years later. You can’t say Ramsbottom United without immediately thinking of current (and forever!) Chairman Harry Williams. Involved from the start, you can still find Harry behind the scenes on a matchday, whether it be in the ticket booth, or dishing out pies in the food hut. A stalwart of the club and ex-manager of the first team (1966-1985), who’s name adorns the stadium that the Rams have been based at since 1980. We continue to wish him well after a recent fall has meant some time in recovery. We certainly hope he is well enough to visit Gigg Lane for this special local fixture. Following success in both Bury Amateur and Bolton Combination leagues through the late 60s and 70s, the club made the step up into the Manchester League in 1989 before applying to join the NWCFL in the mid-90s. The ground received its grading, with the club gaining promotion from Division Two in 1997, at the same point as they acquired floodlights from local rugby side, Oldham Rugby League Club. The Rams remained competitive until tradegy struck in 2001 when manager of the time, Ken Bridge, collapsed and died following a game against Cheadle Town. This stunted some of the club’s progress, before in 2009, Harry handed the reins to players at the time – Bernard Morley and Anthony Johnson, for their first tilt at management. They made their name in fine style, earning promotion for the first time to the NPL in 2012. Further progression and development of both the ground and playing squad occurred and after just two seasons at the elevated level, they achieved a further promotion following a play-off campaign which first overcame favourites Darlington and then Bamber Bridge to reach the third tier for the first time. Bernard and Jonno left for the ‘Class of ’92’ and Salford City later that year, sending the club in a spin which they were unable to turn around until ex-player Chris Wilcox was appointed in October 2018. An FA Trophy run into the last-16, defeated only by high-flying AFC Fylde, was a highlight for the Willcock’s tenure which without the onset of Covid-19 would no doubt have earned the club a further promotion in that period. Willcock moved on in 2021 to Workington and the club’s results faltered afterwards, with Lee Donafee struggling to maintain a position in the top half of the league and being replaced, with incumbant David Chadwick unable to keep the Rams in the NPL, with the side slipping back into the NWCFL last summer. Former Northwich Victoria manager Steve Wilkes took over the reins for this season, and has the team sat in 18th, with 11 wins and 8 draws from 35 games so far. They have struggled of late, with a single point in the last five games coming courtesy of a 3-3 draw on Saturday away at Burscough. However, it was a game that they were leading 3-0 at the break. Match Info: Charnock Richard (H), Sat 16th Mar, 12.30pm KO
We’re back at Gigg Lane on Saturday, but again not as we know it, for an early Saturday clash against Charnock Richard. This game will once again be played out in front of empty stands at Gigg Lane as the second game of our stadium bans comes into force this week after the appeal against the sanctions, was rejected earlier this month. Dave McNabb and his team will be looking to get back to winning ways after our last outing in which we fell to a second defeat in a row to Barnoldswick. Despite having over 70% of the possession, and shots on target being in double digits, The Shakers failed to capitalise on a late onslaught of Barlick’s goal with the visitors managing to find the net twice, leaving Gigg Lane with all three points and inflict the first home league loss under McNabb’s tenure. With Charnock have seemingly been a bit of a bogey team for The Shakers this season. After we led twice in away fixtures in the league and FA Cup, we only gained a point following a late equaliser, and worst still a last minute winner knocked us out of the cup. Compound this with being beaten at Gigg Lane in the Macron Cup 1-0, the team will be focused on a big performance and getting back to the form that saw us go unbeaten in the league between December and March. We are once again gutted that you can’t be with us again for this fixture but know that you will be with us in spirit! Wherever you are we ask you to show your support and tag us in your #ShakersSelfies across social media! Post-Match: Dave McNabb Last Time Out – Charnock Richard (A) In Opposition – Charnock Richard In 1933 the Chorley Sunday League became the Chorley Alliance League and a Charnock Richard village team was entered, but on the outbreak of the Second World War the league and team were temporarily suspended. At the end of the War, in 1945, the Chorley Alliance League was reformed along with Charnock Richard F.C. The team proved to be a tremendous success, eventually winning the league title in the 1947-48 season, losing only two games, and scoring 107 goals. This success prompted them to try and run two teams, but they ran into difficulties and the club closed at the end of the 1948-49 season. In 1955, under the leadership of Ron Wilcox, the present club was reformed, and once again played in the Chorley Alliance League. Charnock progressed to the North West Counties League in 2016-17 after finishing as runners-up in the West Lancashire League in the previous season and won promotion to the Premier Division of the NWCL in the first season when finishing runners up in Division 1. In the 21-22 season the club won the North West Counties League, League Challenge Cup. Last season, Charnock finished 11th in NWCFL Premier Division. They currently sit in 9th, with 14 wins and 11 draws from only 31 games played so far. They recorded an emphatic 6-1 win against Squires Gate last weekend, before a draw in mid-week against West Didsbury. Programmes Matchday Programme: You can purchase a copy of the match day programme online now. Price is £3. These programme copies won’t be available to collect until after the behind closed door games. Please head to the merchandise stall at future games to collect. A downloadable copy will be made available for free for all supporters who access the match day stream. More details on the stream below. Match Coverage & Live Stream As Gigg Lane is not accessible for the next two fixtures, we’ll have all the live coverage across our media platforms. This access will be communicated ahead of kick-off. Kenny Hindle
We are sad to report the passing of long-time Bury fan, Kenny Hindle. Following the club for over 70 years, Kenny became synonymous with the club's plight in 2019. We are so glad he saw his beloved Bury back at Gigg Lane. Once A Shaker, Always A Shaker. RIP Kenny pic.twitter.com/CaA1vewzcc — Bury Football Club (@buryfcofficial) March 4, 2024 Last week, the club were sad to bring news of the passing of long-term supporter Kenny Hindle. Over 70 years a follower of Bury Football Club and a familiar figure in the stands to many. Kenny was like all of us back in 2019. Heart-broken. And at a loss as to how to move forward with such a big piece of his life being taken away. His comments to media outlets that visited Gigg Lane at the time, resonated with the wider public who had been drawn to the subject of the club’s battle for survival. Such was his link to the situation, he was chosen to lead out the team’s of Bury FC Legends to raptourous applause at a charity fixture in October 2019. He was back at Gigg Lane for the early stages of this campaign as football returned after a four-season hiatus. We were all delighted that he was able to re-take his seat and watch the football team that had been a mainstay of his life. The club will be holding a minutes applause at our game against Ramsbottom United, on Tuesday 19th March. Kenny’s funeral will take place on Monday 18th March. The funeral cortege will stop at Gigg Lane from 10am on the way to Radcliffe Crematorium, for anyone wishing to pay their respects. Full details on the service can be found HERE. Supporters are advised that only family flowers have been requested and anyone wishing to make donations can do so to Bury Hospice at the below link. Bury Hospice Donations View the full article

Update: Ticket Refunds
Firstly, thank you for the continued patience being shown by all supporters in relation to information on obtaining refunds for the Behind Closed door matches. We appreciate that this affects single ticket purchases, season ticket holders, 1885 members and sponsors. We do not take your support for granted. The systems/mechanics involved in processing any refunds is not a simple one. As you can imagine the club has never had to deal with this situation before and with a club having a small number of full-time staff, it is taking some time to work through potential solutions. That being said, we could have communicated a update sooner and we acknowledge the fustrations that may have caused. We hope to be in a position to give an update next week having worked through the practical considerations for actioning refunds and aim to offer some suitable solutions/options. I am sure you can also appreciate that these charges have caused a signifcant hole in the club’s finances and have provided logistical challenges that are beyond the scope of what can reasonably be expected. We will communicate our plans next week and request your continued patience in awaiting further news on next steps. Thank you for your continued support. Match Info: Barnoldswick Town (H), Tues 12th Mar, 7.45pm KO
We return home, but not as we know it, for a Tuesday clash against Barnoldswick Town in front of empty stands at Gigg Lane as the first of our stadium bans comes into force this week. The appeal against the ban to play two games behind closed doors, was rejected last week. Supporters will therefore not be able to watch from the stands for this game, or Saturday’s fixture against Charnock Richard. A summary of what this means has been outlined here. Despite this, the squad will be keen to jump back upon the horse after a stumble at weekend when we left the RG3 Digitial Stadium with no points in a disappointing game against Irlam. The teams cancelled each other out in the main, without many gilt edged chances for either side on a windy day in Salford. It was the hosts who grabbed the only goal of the game mid-way through the first half, with Ethan Cartwright lashing home a drilled shot from the edge of the box. Chances for Daniels on his return to Irlam, as well as Miles Storey, Sam Burns and Benito Lowe all didn’t hit the mark and we fell to defeat for the first time in 15 league games. It was also the first league shut-out of the season, with us hitting the net in all of the other 37 games up to Saturday, scoring 96 times in the process. The goals are there, and manager Dave McNabb will be hoping the squad return to form this week. The gaffer’s post-match interview from Saturday is available below. If this Tuesday’s game is anything like the reverse fixture when we visited The Silent Night Stadium in October, goals we will not be short of. In the manager’s fourth outing, we smashed seven unanswered goals past a fancied Barlick side, and stamped down our promotion-seeking credentials in the process. You can find the highlights to that game below. Last Time Out – Barnoldswick Town (a) Post-Match: Dave McNabb In Opposition – Barnoldswick Town The modern club formed in 1972 under the name Barnoldswick United (1972), after earlier incarnations in the 1920-30s folded soon after formation. Joining the local Craven & District League, before transferring to the East Lancashire League in the early 1990s, with two teams representing the club. In the late 1990’s, the club expanded to three teams, when 1st & 2nd team teams joined The West Lancashire Football League, and a new 3rd team staying in The East Lancashire League. The 2003/2004 season brought the amalgamation of Barnoldswick United (1972), Barnoldswick Park Rovers and Salterforth Juniors and we changed our name to Barnoldswick Town Football Club. It had always been in the club’s constitution to get the ground up to the minimum standards of The North West Counties Football League. The club were successful to be included from the start of the 2009/2010 season, being promoted at the first attempt after finishing as runner-up a position that they have maintained to this day. Barlick have maintained a fairly comfortable mid-table position after flirting with the play-off positions in the earlier part of the season. They currently sit in 16th position in the league, with 11 wins and 10 draws from 35 games so far. Last time out on Saturday, they lost to Wythenshawe Town 3-1. Programmes Matchday Programme: You can purchase a copy of the match day programme online now. Price is £3. These programme copies won’t be available to collect until after the behind closed door games. Please head to the merchandise stall at future games to collect. Incoming: Dean Pinnington
We are delighted to confirm the signing of midfielder Dean Pinnington from FC Isle of Man. The Manx-born 21-year-old started his career at Wolves before moving to Wigan. Aged 10, Dean was invited to play at the Isle of Man Centre of Excellence, and he went on to represent the island as a junior from the age of 10 to 15. He was asked to attend a trial at Everton when he was 12, before an opportunity arose for with Wolves, a club he then spent three and a half years with. After leaving the Midlands, he joined Wigan he helped the club become U18 Professional Development League National Champions. He signed a pro deal in July 2021 Dean left the DW Stadium and went back home and joined FC Isle of Man where this season he’s made 30 appearances, notching up seven goals. His last appearance for the Ravens was against Bury at The Bowl last month. We asked Dave McNabb about his new signing and he said the following: Really please to get Dean on board he’s a player we know a lot about having played at Wolves and Wigan in his youth career. I was also very impressed with him when we played the Isle of Man. A great addition to ensure we have very strong options going into the final straight of the season Subject to league approval Dean will be available for today’s trip to Irlam #BuryFC | #PartOfIt | #ShakersTogether View the full article

Plans for Behind Closed Door Games
As our update earlier in the week, we are to play our next two home games behind closed doors. Supporters will not be allowed into Gigg Lane for the following two fixtures: Barnoldswick Town – Tues 12th March, 7.45pm KO Charnock Richard – Sat 16th March, 12.30pm KO* Thankfully, we have agreement from both Charnock and the league to bring forward the kick-off time next Saturday to 12.30pm*. This is to allow the game to be broadcast via live stream and not co-incide with the ‘blocked hours’ ruling, which prevents viewing within the UK of 3pm kick-offs on a Saturday afternoon. More on this further down the page. Further to the above, we have had to make the following preparations for this game and wish to inform supporters of the necessary plans with the update below. Who is allowed inside Gigg Lane? The ground will be not be open to supporters, and controls will be set up to prevent all but those allowed to enter the ground on each match day. This will include all players, staff and officials for each club alongside working volunteers who carry out necessary roles in ensuring the game can function as normal. This information will be gathered in the lead up to the games from both within the club and the visiting sides. There will therefore be representatives from both clubs allowed to carry out their roles across club administration, ground staff, team and kit staff, press representatives and club media officials alongside photographers and camera operatives. The car park will be closed to all those who are not on the accepted lists will not be allowed entry under any circumstances. Security operatives will be assisting on the entrance to the car park, as well as around the ground, to ensure we control access to Gigg Lane at all times. Tickets / Programmes It is our intention to offer refunds for all pre-purchased tickets for either game. We are working on a solution for reimbursing season ticket holders and will communicate this to follow. If you have any queries relating to tickets, please contact the club via email – tickets@buryfc.co.uk A programme will be available to purchase for pick-up at Gigg Lane after the completion of the behind closed doors fixtures. These will be £3 (plus Ticketco fee) each and available to buy only online. Head to buryfc.co.uk/tickets to buy yours. Access to the Live Stream Broadcast The live stream of both games will be available FREE OF CHARGE on the website (buryfc.co.uk), on our YouTube channel and across our Facebook page. The direct links will be communicated ahead of the games, but you won’t miss a moment of the action. Donations to the Club Supporters have asked about options to make financial contributions back to the club. We are working on providing an online payment mechanism and more details on this will follow. View the full article

Match Info: Irlam (A), Sat 9th Mar, 3pm KO
Irlam it is this weekend and our last game of the season outside of the Borough of Bury. With six of the last nine games at Gigg Lane, and the other two away games at Prestwich and Ramsbottom, we head out onto the M60 and into Salford for the last time in the regular season. It is a 3pm kick-off at the RG3 Digitial Stadium this Saturday. Last weekend, we grabbed the win against a tough Lower Breck side on a difficult pitch. That said, late chances went begging for Player of the Month Andy Scarisbrick and new loan signing, Miles Storey, which would have given the scoreline a gloss that the determined performance deserved. However, make no mistake the side continue to turn in results which keep us at the top of the league and the form table. A winning streak that stretches four games, going 14 unbeaten as well is just the tonic as we hit the business end of the season. Irlam by contrast have been hit and miss in recent weeks, with two wins, two draws and two losses in the last six. One of those wins was away at Chadderton however, which has slowed Chaddy’s assault on the top spots which has helped us but also acts as a reminder to not take our opponent lightly. Sat in 13th position in the league, comfortably away from the relegation spots and with the playoffs likely out of reach, are our opponents going to playing with a freedom that could cause us problems? We will have to wait and see, but as always we need our large following to be backing from the off as we go in the hunt of another three points. Charlie Doyle returns from his suspension, with Dec Daniels hopefully full recovered from his illness. Both would be facing off against their former side this weekend if so, with Andy Briggs also pushing for a start as he returns from the ankle injury suffered away at Cheadle Town three weeks ago. Your full match information is available below. Last Time Out – Irlam (h) ‘Playing Away’ – Episode Nine Opponents – Irlam Setup in 1969, as Mitchell Shackleton Football Club mostly competing in the local district leagues until renaming to Irlam Mitchell Shackleton in 2001 and after success in the Manchester League consistently in the early-2000s were renamed to their current name in 2006. Despite a relatively disappointing Manchester League performance in 2007-08, where they finished eighth, Irlam moved into the North West Counties for the following season before establishing themselves and getting promoted to their current position in the Premier Division with a second-placed finish in 2015-16.Irlam play at Silver Street, the former home of Irlam Town (1976-1995) following the relinquishing of their former home at Salteye Park, which made way for the new AJ Bell Stadium, home of Salford Reds and Sale Sharks which can be seen from the M60 around the Trafford Centre. Irlam finished last season in 17th, and have made a jump up the league in recent weeks to now lie in mid-table. On Tuesday night, they secured a 4-3 win away at Barnoldswick Town. Admission & Tickets There are NO advance tickets for this game, with pay on the gate facilities will be available with payments taken with either cash or card. Club Update: March 2024
Following on from the announcement earlier in the week around the stadium ban coming into force from next Tuesday, the club is continuing to work on the plans around this and hopes to communicate an update on this ahead of this weekend. Prior to that, the following update is provided on other matters of relevance this week, including: • Results of a charge following the home game against Skelmersdale United. • Impacts of charges on the club • Current match-day procedures at Gigg Lane. • General Manager to answer your questions. Please find the full update below. FA Charge Hearing – Skelmersdale United (27th January) On Tuesday evening the club attended a second FA hearing within 48 hours, to answer charges relating to rule E.21 during our fixture against Skelmersdale United at Gigg Lane on Saturday 27th January. The club responded promptly to this charge when informed, which resulted in the de-escalation of the process. We pleaded not guilty to the charge that we ‘failed to ensure our spectators and / or supporters (and anyone purporting to be supporters or followers) conduct themselves in an orderly fashion’ following an incident that occurred towards the end of the game. These charges were found to be unproven by the FA and as a result the charges were discharged against the club. We are pleased with this result, and thank the team who responded to the charge for their work in this case. Impacts of charges on the club Whilst it is not expected that the club will routinely circulate the results of charges raised against the club (as above), partially as they are a matter to be dealt with privately with any relevant parties or authorities involved, we do recognise that the recent changes resulting in stadium closures will be alarming to supporters. We welcome the result of the most recent charge and wish to confirm to supporters that the club’s disciplinary group work diligently in both assisting any cases presented and defending the club in these instances. Historical offences have meant that club still sits under a 12-month suspended stadium ban, which runs until mid-September 2024. We are therefore still under scrutiny and will act appropriately to protect against further incidents. Steps have been taken to eradicate these issues at Gigg Lane, by both removing and banning individuals from the ground, as well as initially removing alcohol sales on match-day and making alterations to seating arrangements. We will continue to work with the regulatory bodies in ensuring that our supporters conduct themselves appropriately when attending fixtures and we urge all supporters to work with us to this goal. As has been shown this week, these measures are not taken lightly and the penalties are significant and have increased over time. A full stadium closure makes a large dent in budget expectations, which only serve to affect the club’s ability to progress. There is also the time spent by both staff, alongside dedicated volunteer effort, in preparing for each case. This time would be better spent on improving all the things that supporters want to see from their club. We urge supporters to take on board the impacts and consequences of fan disorder inside the ground to work with the club and their fellow supporters to build upon what is mostly a vibrant, welcoming and ultimately enjoyable experience in following the Shakers. Match Day at Gigg Lane Supporters will be aware that alcohol sales inside kiosks were re-introduced last week. This has been of a direct result of working with events and kiosk staff in implementing a workable solution. This process will continue to be re-evaluated by the board and General Manager going forward. There are many other significant developments being worked upon across the club ranging from short to long term in timescale, but definitely show the progressive nature that the club is looking to take, with supporters and the wider community at the heart of these developments. The most immediate plans centre on some big ticket items, like works to fully open the Main Stand, fan experience initiatives and works towards the proposed 3G pitch installation. We will of course bring you updates on these as they happen. Neil Sears answers your questions To bring supporters insight into some of these plans and despite only officially being in position for a couple of weeks, we will be putting newly-appointed General Manager, Neil Sears, in front of the camera soon to explain his role and how he is settling into life in BL9. We plan for this to be a regular update and a way of reporting on club matters at least every couple of months. Neil has overall responsibility for running day-to-day operations at Gigg Lane, but as part of the dual-role as club secretary, he also liaises with manager Dave McNabb on team matters. Whilst we plan to cover the main points in the first part of the video, there will be a chance for supporters to ask questions on the important issues that matter to them across the areas that Neil covers. If you have a question for Neil, please submit them via email to media@buryfc.co.uk by Sunday 10th March. View the full article

Appeal Hearing Result
Our appeal on the sanctions for charges relating to offensive supporter behaviour in September last year, has been dismissed. We will be required to play our next two home games behind closed doors. These are against Barnoldswick Town next Tuesday (12th) and Charnock Richard the following Saturday, 16th March. We are allowed to produce a live stream broadcast of the Barnoldswick game but not the Charnock Richard fixture. We will continue to work with the Manchester FA on tackling the serious issues that have been highlighted throughout the case. We, as a club, strive for a game which is free from discrimination and accessible and welcoming for all. There are number of operational challenges we are now working through, including the refund of tickets. Please bear with us as we finalise these, and further details will be provided in due course. In the meantime, if you have any ticketing queries the club can be contacted via email by clicking below: Ticketing Queries Here View the full article

#HerGameToo: Leigh Gell
Bury FC Player & National League Referee Leigh Gell, sat down with our matchday programme editor Chris Saville to discuss her experiences in football. Hello Leigh, thanks for talking to us. Tell us about yourself and why did you get involved with football? Just like many girls of my generation, I first started playing football with boys in primary school. It was my favourite sport, so I’ve continued playing since then and also became a coach and a referee when I was old enough. You are the Women and Girls Development Officer for Manchester FA, what does that involve? My role is to develop the grassroots game for women and girls, this means increasing the number of women and girls involved in football across a wide range of opportunities. We’ve seen a huge increase in demand for women and girls’ football and I love working with our clubs to grow their offer. It’s also important to me that they have relatable role models, so I run various projects to get more female coaches, referees and volunteers as well. As well as that, you also referee women’s football too? Yes, I currently referee in the Women’s National League and have also this season begun assisting in the North West Counties Football league. It took me a while to take up men’s football as a female, but I wanted to be an example for other female referees that they can also officiate in men’s football. What made you want to become a referee? If I’m honest, I only did the course because I was too young to do the coaching qualification. My club chairman suggested it would be a good alternative and that I could help the younger children at the club. Fast forward to now and I actually enjoy refereeing even more than playing – it’s crazy how things can change! On top of that you also play for Bury FC Women too, how do you find the time? My whole life is football, I don’t think a day goes by that I’m not involved in something to do with football, and I wouldn’t change a thing. There is such a wide range of things to do within football, so things still feel different! Officiating can be lonely at times especially training on your own, so I love to be able to train and support the girls, it’s truly a special club to be part of. In all your roles, which one do you find the hardest? Refereeing is definitely the one I find most challenging, no game is ever the same and you are always learning and developing. The pressure can be tough at times but ultimately you just want to make decisions that are best for the game – I know fans don’t always see it like that. I still don’t when I watch my own team. With so many women now participating or watching football, do you see a difference in how women are treated compared to men? Yes, I think we’ve come a long way and there are some brilliant improvements to shout about but I still think we have a long way to go as well. We’ve had a huge growth, but women and girls are still the minority in football by a long way. The more women’s and girls’ football grow, we are heading in the right direction and the more positive change we will see but we’re not there just yet. Do you think the historic perception of women in football is changing for the better? It’s brilliant to see the spotlight on the teams that paved the way for us to play. I’m looking forward to Copa 71 being released and also the documentary being created on Manchester Corinthians. It’s an important untold history and without those women, football wouldn’t look like it does today. What advice would you give to any girl or woman who wants to start playing, coaching, refereeing or watching football? Get involved right now – you won’t regret it! It’s the most enjoyable, rewarding thing you can ever be part of. What would you say to any female participant or fan playing, involved or going to football matches who hears things they don’t want to or who are subjected to any sexist abuse? What advice would you give them? If you feel protected, challenge it there and then but never put yourself at risk. Use the necessary reporting tools through Kick It Out and your local County FA to ensure it is reported. If things are not reported, nothing can change! Most importantly, don’t stop just because of someone else’s outdated opinion, you have every right to be there! As always, keep across the latest from the club on the website, X / Twitter & Facebook. #ShakersTogether | #HerGameToo | #PartofIt View the full article
