Match Info: Burscough (A), Sat 23rd Dec, 3pm KO
The festive season starts up with a visit to the Community Ground and back to Burscough this weekend, as matters in the NWCFL resume. In fact, it is NWCFL action from here on in after our exit from the Macron Cup last weekend at Gigg Lane. The loss by a single goal to Charnock Richard directs focus on just the league now, with 21 league games to go. And there will be recent wrongs to put right, with our last visit to Burscough to play Skelmersdale in late November being a disappointment and the squad returning with no points following a 2-1 loss. However, there is cause for great optimism in the league. A run of six wins out of seven has meant we keep up the pace at the top, with Wythenshawe two points ahead at the top and a Prestwich Heys side, who visit Gigg Lane on Boxing Day, just a point behind in third. With the rush of Christmas fixtures maybe arriving too quickly for injured forward due of Andy Briggs and Benito Lowe, manager Dave McNabb will be pleased to have Dec Daniels back after his debut goal at Longridge, after he was cup-tied last weekend. The striker, with 34 goals already this term, will be looking to capitalise on the number of chances being created, which currently don’t reflect in the number of times the ball hits the back of the net. McNabb spoke about this in his post-match interview last week, which you can find below. Heading to Burscough? You full match information pack can be found here. This week in ‘Playing Away’ – placing the spotlight on the NWCFL, we caught up with Burscough Commercial Director, Neil Wilson and manager David Dempsey, to discuss all things Burscough ahead of our clash this weekend. Match Info: Prestwich Heys (H), BOXING DAY Tue 26th Dec, 3pm KO
In a season of new starts and reconnecting with football in our town, the return of a Boxing Day fixture at Gigg Lane places another tick in the box of all Bury supporters, as we welcome Prestwich Heys for a local derby clash this festive period. With the ground left to ruin from 2019, the roar of a Gigg Lane crowd on Boxing Day went with it. And all who have been involved with its return will no doubt be ‘walking down the the Manny Road’ with beaming smiles this year to witness what is set to be a Christmas cracker of a game. However, the less said about the last Boxing Day fixture at Gigg Lane, the better! Newly-appointed manager, club legend Chris Lucketti, precided over his first home game in charge, and looking to propel the Shakers from their lowly position at the foot-of-the-table after a dreadful start to the season which had seen Lee Clark leave his post in October. The ‘new manager bounce’ didn’t work however, and the visitors on the day Rotherham United ran out 3-0 winners in front of a crowd of 4,630. We hope for much better result this time around! For all the details of this big local derby, the full match information pack can be found below. In Opposition – Prestwich Heys The origins of Prestwich Heys AFC can be traced back to February 9th 1938 when a meeting was called at the Music Room of the Heys Road Boys School at which Elgar Lumsden put forward the idea of forming an Old Boys Association. Despite the onset of the Second World War a year later, the Association flourished under the Chairmanship of Proctor Bell, who also acted as Secretary of the football arm, known as Heys Old Boys AFC and was acknowledged as one of the region’s best. The team gradually progressed through the Bury Amateur League and in to the South East Lancashire League claiming Championships in 1960, 1961 and 1964. Under the guidance of Peter Gilmore in the sixties, Heys won the prestigious Lancashire Amateur Cup in 1967 followed by the one and only Lancashire Combination Grand Slam in the 1970/71 season with Heys bringing all four trophies available back to Grimshaws. The club also changed its name in 1964 to Prestwich Heys AFC, an acknowledgement of the fame achieved by the club as they proved one of the nations top amateur clubs. Thousands flocked to see Heys play, and beat, the likes of Sutton United, Ferryhill Athletic, Finchley and Highgate United in the FA Amateur Cup with the clubs best run taking Heys to the last 16. The victory over Sutton United in 1969 ranks as one of Heys most famous moments, attracting nationwide coverage, coming a week before their opponents were due to meet Leeds United in the FA Cup. The above has been taken from the history section of the Prestwich Heys website, read more here. In more recent seasons, Heys re-entered the NWCFL in 2017 (following a stint in the divisions in the early-80s) before gaining promotion to the Premier Division during the covid league re-shuffle in 2021. The side finished 7th last season, and are looking to improve on that this season, comfortably sat inside the play-off positions going into the festive period. Starkies, Santa & Toy Collection – This Weekend
In our final home game before the Christmas period, we have some important things to note ahead of the game for supporters attending at Gigg Lane this weekend. Starkies The newly-refurbished Starkies bar We have finally received notification of permitted numbers and from this weekend, the bar in Starkies will be open before, during and briefly after the game with a private function due later in the evening. Supporters who are seated in the Main Stand will have access to Starkies from the point the ground opens at 1.30pm, with ALL supporters able to gain access to the bar after game up to the allowable capacity. We are delighted that the hard work, time and money that has gone into refurbishing this area for supporters to gather during games has finally come to fruition. We look forward to welcoming all this weekend and onwards. Please bear with us as we manage demand and refine the process over the coming weeks. Santa visits Gigg From the Pilkington programme In an event originally planned for our home game with Ramsbottom United, which was postponed on Saturday 9th December, Santa has kindly re-jigged his busy schedule at this time of year to visit Gigg Lane ahead of the Charnock game. Santa will be on the club car park between 1.30-2.30pm. Grab your picture, let him know what you would really like under the tree next week and there will be some small treats to give out to those who have been very good this year. This event has been set up in conjunction with our good friends at The Rotary Club of Ramsbottom and on behalf of Bury Hospice. The collection buckets will be out in force for our generous supporters can give everything they can. We really appreciate it! For more information on Bury Hospice and the Rotary Club of Ramsbottom, click on the below links: Children’s Hospital – Toy Collection In our area, very poorly children are served at either the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital or Royal Bolton Hospital. In this festive season, we are getting behind the efforts and providing support for the Children’s Ward at the Royal Bolton Hospital. In an event always planned for this weekend’s fixture, we are asking supporters to donate new toys to distribute to the unfortunate children who will spend their Christmas in hospital. As supporter David Hutton, who’s daughter Isla spent two Christmases at the Royal Bolton, explains in the below article taken from the programme last month: “A toy received while in hospital is extra special.” David’s piece in the programme last month We will be collecting toys in the Main Entrance of the Main Stand ahead of the game and Santa will be delivering these gifts directly to the hospital later in the day. Unfortunately, we cannot accept cuddly toys or anything inappropriate for young children, like toy weapons etc. #ShakersTogether | #BuryFC | #PartofIt View the full article

Match Info: Charnock Richard (H), Sat 16th Dec, 3pm KO – 3rd Rd Macron Cup
A win on the road after a short on-field hiatus, was just what the doctor ordered on Wednesday night as we returned from Longridge with three points and retake the top spot in the league – for now. A penalty from Sam Burns at the end of the first half, alongside a debut goal for Dec Daniels to quickly cancel out the hosts equaliser was greatly received on a cold night for the Shakers faithful. The Macron Cup slides into the fixture calendar this weekend, with Charnock Richard visiting Gigg Lane for the first time. We overcame Ramsbottom United in the previous round, following a keenly fought contest last month that ended with a see-saw penalty shoot-out and Player of the Month, Gaz Peet slotting home the winning penalty in front of a healthy Riverside crowd. Highlights from that game are available below. Charnock have beaten Euxton Villa and Holker Old Boys in the previous rounds of this competition. With a number of postponements blighting their recent progress, despite this they are in a rich vein of form with the last loss in either league or cup coming in mid-September. The full match information pack can be found below. In Opposition – Charnock Richard In 1933 the Chorley Sunday League became the Chorley Alliance League and a Charnock Richard village team was entered, but on the outbreak of the Second World War the league and team were temporarily suspended. At the end of the War, in 1945, the Chorley Alliance League was reformed along with Charnock Richard F.C. The team proved to be a tremendous success, eventually winning the league title in the 1947-48 season, losing only two games, and scoring 107 goals. This success prompted them to try and run two teams, but they ran into difficulties and the club closed at the end of the 1948-49 season. In 1955, under the leadership of Ron Wilcox, the present club was reformed, and once again played in the Chorley Alliance League. Charnock progressed to the North West Counties League in 2016-17 after finishing as runners-up in the West Lancashire League in the previous season and won promotion to the Premier Division of the NWCL in the first season when finishing runners up in Division 1. In the 21-22 season the club won the North West Counties League, League Challenge Cup. Last season, Charnock finished 11th in NWCFL Premier Division. Tickets & Admission No advance tickets are available for this game, with admission to both Main and South Stands via cash / card sales on the gate only. Admission prices as below: Adults – £10 16-18s – £5 u16s – £3 u5s – FREE Please follow requests from volunteers and stewards for directions if unsure. Incoming: Declan Daniels & Ethan Kachosa
Bury Football Club can announce the arrival of two additions to Dave McNabb’s squad, as striker Declan Daniels and defender Ethan Kachosa arrived in Lancashire to sign up this week. With both Benito Lowe and top-scorer Andy Briggs sidelined with injury, the manager has dipped into the market for a goalscorer. And currently in the NWCFL, there is no-one is finding the net like Daniels who has netted 33 times for Irlam already so far this season. His tally makes him the leading scorer in the league, with 21, as well as 12 goals across 10 cup fixtures, and a total of four hat-tricks this term alone. Dec in the Gigg Lane changing rooms – photo: Phil Hill Starting his footballing career in Suffolk in the academy at Ipswich Town, the Merseyside-born Daniels, 25, found his way back to the North-West in 2018 in the NPL with first Warrington Town, and then stints at Winsford Town, Clitheroe, Skelmersdale United, Lower Breck, Burscough, Atherton Colls and Widnes. Joining Dec in the Bury ranks is right-back Ethan Kachosa who has had two years as a professional at Sunderland. Hailing from West Yorkshire, Ethan joined Leeds United as a scolar in 2019. When his contract ended in 2021, he made the move to the north east and playing in the under-21 side at the Stadium of Light, appearing in the Football League Trophy. Earlier this year, Kachosa (20) joined Guiseley on loan and played seven games in the NPL, scoring once. At the end of his Sunderland contract in the summer, Ethan had a spell in East Sussex at Isthmian League side Lewes from which he joins the Shakers. The manager gave buryfc.co.uk his thoughts on the latest additions: “Ethan is a player we have tracked for a while now, he’s an explosive full back who loves to get forward. He has a great pedigree having come through the youth system at Leeds United and having spent two years as a pro at Sunderland. I’m really pleased to welcome Dec to the club. He’s a great lad off the pitch and his goalscoring record speaks for itself. He will really add to our attacking options particularly at a time where we have a number of injuries to key players..” Whilst we await league approval on the signings, we expect both Ethan and Declan to go into contention for the weekend, as we head to Longridge Town. Match Info: Longridge Town (A), Sat 9th Dec, 3pm KO
It’s our first fixture of the festive month of December, as we head to Longridge on Saturday afternoon. A visit that has been delayed by a week due to poor weather, we should have seen a scheduled game against Ramsbottom United at Gigg Lane but due to the Rams being in FA Vase action, we have brought forward our trip over to Preston. Treasureline: Join Now!
As we head towards 2024 and the new era at Bury Football Club, we reach out to update you around the future of the ‘Treasureline’ partnership with our friends and colleagues at National Youth & Community Development Association (NYCDA). Alongside this great news, there is a chance to win on our prize draw available to all new members who sign up by Sunday 10th December. Full details will be available at the bottom of the page. Many of you will fondly remember the old Treasureline lottery of yesteryear, which raised funds for the club in the form of a weekly lottery draw. That unfortunately almost completely disappeared due to initial management issues, and eventually the impacts of Covid which significantly impacted on the collection of door-to-door cash contributions. Industry experts, and Bury town centre based NYCDA, took on the remnants and refocused the old approach to ensure the Treasureline name was not lost. This way proceeds were continued to be generated, with Treasureline becoming part of their NYCDA Weekly Draw and those remaining contributors could continue to support their chosen cause. Going forward, fans and local people alike can join this draw, and in turn will be able to support this cause by becoming a participant in the NYCDA Weekly Draw. All proceeds generated are to be used to support the club’s activities across the Borough of Bury, in growing our men’s and womens’ youth and elite player development programmes. Activity behind the scenes is beginning to ramp up, so stand by to see and hear more and more on social media, at game days, at official club events, door-to-door campaigns, telesales activities, email campaigns, business initiatives and much more. Members can play for as little as £1 per week with the opportunity to win BIG!!! Fantastic cash amounts, including a main weekly £1,000 prize, as well as a £500 Rollover, which can rise to a huge £10,000, are up for grabs! Additional prizes ranging from £10 to £100 are also available every Wednesday. Click here to join Right now we are running a special prize draw incentive to join by midnight on Sunday 10th December. All fans who sign up to support the club in this way can enter the prize draw by clicking on the image and inserting ‘BURYFCXMAS’ as the promo code when joining! Prizes including a signed 2023/24 home shirt, a pair of tickets into hospitality and a number of items of official club merchandise. For information including how to join and weekly results, as well as some insights as to where the proceeds are used and the kind of work this partnership will continue to support, please take a look at the microsite HERE. #ShakersTogether | #BuryFC | #Treasureline View the full article
