  2. Our trip to Burscough this afternoon will see the final appearance of Lewis Alessandra, as he confirms his retirement from football. Lewis has decided to call time on his 17-year playing career, due to recurring injuries & work commitments. The 35-year-old started out at grassroots side Roach Dynamos before heading to Oldham. He went onto play in the football league for Morecambe, Plymouth Argyle, Rochdale, Hartlepool, Notts County, Morecambe & Carlisle United before moving into non-league and playing for South Shields & Hyde United. He signed for the Shakers in August, and has made 24 appearances for the club this season. Lewis got on the scoresheet in two of our FA Cup ties earlier this season at Avro & Garforth. Manager Dave McNabb said: “Lewis is a brilliant lad who has added so much both on the pitch and off it since he came to the club. “I’m gutted he’s decided to call a day, on what has been a career that most people can only dream of but we’ve got to respect his decision and he leaves us with our best wishes. “Lewis will always be welcome at Gigg Lane and I can’t thank him enough for everything he has done to help me and the club this season. Good luck Lew.” We would like to place on record our thanks to Lewis for his commitment to the club, and we wish him all the best for the future after what has been an amazing football career. 5. On Boxing Day, the club is hosting a charitable fundraising event, which will benefit Bury Hospice and the North West Air Ambulance this year. These vital organisations rely heavily on charitable donations, with Bury Hospice requiring approximately £6.5 million annually to operate, and the Air Ambulance needing around £18 million. This fundraiser is not only backed by our dedicated volunteers, but also by the club’s management and players. We will be hosting an online auction featuring framed photographs signed by various players past and present, along with a raffle and bucket collection around the ground. We would love for you to get involved in any of these activities by either making a prize donation for the Auction, raffle or making a cash donation to support these two outstanding local organisations. As it’s the season to be giving, a small donation can go a long way and would be extremely welcome from both Bury Hospice and North West Air Ambulance. Raffle tickets will begin to be sold on Saturday 7th December, ahead of our home game against Colne, with the prize draw taking place on Boxing Day. The online auction begins today, with the following lots up for grabs: Signed photo of Dave McNabb vs Radcliffe Signed photo of Mitch Allen, Lewis Alessandra, Sam Coughlan & Ben Hockenhull vs Longridge (away) Signed photo of Connor Pye vs Chadderton (home) Signed photo of Bryan Ly vs Squires Gate (away) Signed photo of Connor Pye, Cam Fogerty & Bobby Carroll vs Radcliffe Signed photo of Rustam Stepans vs Squires Gate (away) Signed photo of Bebeto Gomes vs Padiham (away) Signed photo of Alex Cherera vs Congleton (away) Signed photo of Ben Hockenhull vs FC Isle of Man (away) Signed photo of Josh Gregory & Connor Pye vs Radcliffe (away) Signed photo of Gaz Peet vs FC Isle of Man (away) Signed photo of DJ Pedro vs Pilkington (home) Signed photo of Mitch Allen vs Radcliffe Signed photo of Bryan Ly, Connor Pye & Lewis Earl vs Radcliffe Signed photo of Ruben Jerome vs Radcliffe If you’d like to place a bid or purchase a raffle ticket – please email fundraising@buryfc.co.uk, with a starting bid and a contact telephone number to verify the bid. 6. The festive part of the 2024/25 season is upon us, and we have four Christmas-time crackers to bring you this December! Colne, Saturday 7th December 3pm Abbey Hey, Saturday 14th December 3pm Ramsbottom United, BOXING DAY (Thursday 26th December) 3pm Prestwich Heys, Saturday 28th December 3pm Get your football fix down at Gigg Colne head to Gigg on Saturday 7th December, before Abbey Hey travel from East Manchester the following weekend (14th) ahead of a set of local derbies to close out our home games for 2024. First up, ‘The Rams’ of Ramsbottom United arrive at Gigg on Boxing Day for what is shaping up to be a classic top-of-the-table clash against our neighbours from up the A56. Whilst we have been playing catch-up after our cup exploits earlier in the season, Rammy have maintained top spot in the league for long periods. This is becoming a superb turnaround season for the Rams, after what was a disappointing time following their return to the North West Counties last season. Two days later, again at Gigg Lane, we have the return of Prestwich Heys in a repeat of what was last season’s Boxing Day fixture. We ran out 2-0 winners on the day, and with Heys having somewhat of a difficult season so far this time out, sitting bottom at the time of writing, they will be looking to restore some pride and put a dent in the Shakers pursuit of wins in the process. The big question will be, can we break the recent attendance record again at Gigg Lane? Last year’s Boxing Day crowd of 4,833 is there to be shot at. Be there, and be #PartofIt! Online digital tickets can be purchased for all fixtures NOW – buryfc.co.uk/tickets Match Sponsorship & Hospitality Mitsubishi Electric & AC Ventilation presented Player of the Match, Lewis Earl with his award following our win against Longridge Have your brand associated with the Shakers and sponsor a game at Gigg. Contact the club on 0161 537 9253 or email in to enquiries@buryfc.co.uk / commercial@buryfc.co.uk. Why not upgrade your experience for yourself and loved ones this Christmas time, with a trip into either our EyeLevel Sponsors Lounge or 1885 Suite. Either two-course or single-course options are available, with the bar open from 12.30pm to soak up the atmosphere ahead of the big game. 7. We look forward to bouncing back against struggling Burscough after having lost our unbeaten record in the disappointing 4-3 defeat at Lower Breck. Let’s be clear: it was a remarkable achievement to go 21 league games without defeat – just two short of the season’s half-way mark. And let’s not forget our previous game was the outstanding 8-0 home win against Longridge Town, in which we excelled in every department. Lower Breck were always going to be a challenge, given their form. The last time any team put four goals past the Shakers was the first day of the season – a 4-4 draw at Squires Gate. Having a week to recover, and with two training sessions, hopes are high that we can put that disappointment behind us and push on. Promotion is our goal, and every match is a challenge. Our outstanding group of players are no doubt being reminded of that performance as they prepare to take on the Linnets. So Burscough here we come, as we hit the half-way point in the season – Up The Shakers! Saturday’s highlights and interviews with Dave McNabb & Gaz Peet are available to watch below: In Opposition – Burscough Back in September, we beat Burscough 3-0 at home in the Isuzu FA Vase second qualifying round. They’re currently 17th in the league table, with 27 points from 24 games, in contrast to the Shakers’ 3rd position, with 49 points from two games fewer. They were given a welcome boost on Saturday when they beat Irlam 1-0 at home on their excellent 4G all-weather pitch. They had lost all their previous five matches. The club came into existence in 1946 and moved to a newly-built ground three years ago. They became members of the North-West Counties league when it was formed in 1982, and topped the table in the first season. Last term they finished 20th, having drawn 2-2 with Bury both at home and away. Tickets Tickets will be sold on the gate, both cash & card payments are available. 8. Join us on Friday, 13th December in Starkies, for a night of football stories, laughs, and great company! We will be joined by former Bury player & manager Martin Dobson, former Bury chairman Terry Robinson and current first-team manager Dave McNabb, all hosted by Michael “Braddy” Bradshaw. Martin Dobson, a prolific midfield player in his era, began his career at Bolton Wanderers before finding success with Burnley, where he spent 13 seasons across two stints, interrupted by a five-year spell with Everton. During his career, Dobson celebrated two promotions to the top flight with Burnley (1973 and 1982), made 494 appearances, scored 76 goals, and reached FA Cup semi-finals with both Burnley and Everton. Capped five times for England, he later became player-manager at Bury in 1984, transforming a struggling club with a streamlined squad and exciting signings like Leighton James. In his first full season, he led Bury to promotion from the Fourth Division, eventually establishing them in the Third Division. For the Shakers, he played 70 games and managed a further 282 matches, Dobson left an enduring legacy of success and attacking football despite limited resources. On the night, Martin will be launching his autobiography giving guests an early opportunity to purchase a signed copy. Tickets are £25 or £45 with a signed copy of Martin’s book, this includes: A table seat in Starkies Lounge Pie and peas. Special auction and raffle prizes. Doors will open at 7:00pm for an 8:00pm start. Dress code – smart casual. You can click below to purchase your tickets. Buy now to avoid disappointment. View the full article
  9. Working with Bury Council and Bury Community Safety Partnership, at Bury Football Club we are committed to ending men’s violence against women and girls, by working to foster positive culture change. This White Ribbon Day we support White Ribbon UK’s campaign to encourage men to become allies to create a more equal society. To mark the end of Bury council’s 16 day campaign we will be holding a White Ribbon Weekend at the club, across our Men’s & Women’s games against Colne and FC United of Manchester on the weekend of Saturday 7th December & Sunday 8th December respectively. Violence against women and girls is rooted in harmful masculine traits. Starting with men, we must address the attitudes and behaviours that contribute to a fear of violence for women in their day-to-day lives. We’re encouraging men to hold themselves accountable to women and to each other, so we can affect positive behaviour change to transform harmful cultures and commit to the White Ribbon promise to never use, excuse or remain silent about men’s violence against women. 70% of women in the UK say they have experienced sexual harassment in public. (APPG for UN Women, 2021) 3 in 5 women have experienced sexual harassment, bullying or verbal abuse in the workplace. (Trade Unions Congress, 2023) 15% of women in England, and 17% of women in Wales have experienced online violence. (Professor Olga Jurasz, The Open University, 2024) 1.4 million women experienced domestic abuse in the year ending March 2023. (ONS, 2023) 63% of men agree that men in society aren’t doing enough to ensure the safety of women and girls. (YouGov, 2021) White Ribbon Champions are women, and people who do not identify as being a man, who promote the White Ribbon message and encourage and challenge men to get involved by finding opportunities to inspire and inform. Our Champions can hold us to account and ensure that women’s voices are heard in our work. For more information and to become an ambassador or champion click here. Any concerns of criminality, violence and harm can be reported anonymously via Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 1111 or report online. Make a difference to ensure everyone enjoys the beautiful game and in every walk of life harmful behaviours are called out and tackled. View the full article
  10. We are delighted to confirm the permanent signing of Djavan Pedro from Buxton FC for an undisclosed fee, subject to FA approval. DJ joined the Shakers on loan last month, making his debut in the away fixture at Colne. He has scored seven goals in his opening nine games. Including in three out of his opening four home games at Gigg Lane. Manager, Dave McNabb commented: “As soon as a permanent move became a possibility it was a no brainer. DJ has settled into the squad really well since joining on loan. “He’s a player we spoke to in the summer and have tracked for a number of years. “DJ can play in a number of positions and gives us even more quality at the top end of the pitch. “He’s already become a fans favourite and I’m sure he will continue to get the fans off their seats with his work rate and ability. Welcome to Bury, DJ.” View the full article
  11. Bury were outclassed on the day suffering a 4-3 defeat to the hands of Lower Beck ending the Shakers unbeaten run. Dave McNabb when speaking to the club gave his thoughts on the game. Dave McNabb: “I don’t think we were good enough especially in the first half, In the second half I thought we were better we competed more and won more first and second contacts but I can’t believe we’re at the point where were congratulating the lads for putting a bit of effort in but the second half was better but I think on the balance of play and chances we probably should’ve come away with a point as we missed some gilt-edged chances especially towards the end but I won’t take anything away from Lower Breck they put us to the sword they had four shots in the first half that one of the lads put just wide and a freekick maybe but the other three big chances they had they’ve put away. They were clinical and deservedly went in 3-1 up and that put us in a tough position obviously to get something out the game, but we almost did get something out of it but I’m really disappointed with the performance.” Dave then spoke about what potentially went wrong in the first half saying “Most things to be honest and look you can’t come to places like this and not fight and the desire and passion that was shown in the second half wasn’t there in the first half, but you’ve got to win first contacts and second balls what we just didn’t do. I think the officials had a tough day as well if you look at two of the goals that went against us were really poor decisions especially the first one on the corner the goalkeepers being held back and they just didn’t see the obvious and they had a really difficult day I think.” He then spoke about the half time changes of Gaz Peet and Reuben Jerome replacing Connor Pye and Sam Coughlan and what that offered saying “We just needed to get more players on the top line I don’t think we were brave enough to play and we couldn’t play through the thirds and DJ [Pedro] was on his own and was trying to fight two powerful centre halves so I had to get another player on the top line and try and play from the first contact further up the pitch but to be honest 3 or 4 probably could’ve come off at half time.” Dave concluded on what the team must improve on to avoid dropping further points ahead of next weekend’s game, he said: “We need to look at ourselves because look I’m not going to blow this one up we’ve lost one game in 22 games so I think the fact we’re so angry and disappointed in this shows where we are, we’ve obviously had too many draws but to lose your first game towards the back end of November when you’ve already played 22 games is a testament to the lads and it’s the same group that won 8-0 on Saturday and were absolutely sublime so nothing has changed in that and I don’t think we’ve turned into a bad team or bad players overnight of course, we haven’t so just need to look back we have a full week of training again we meant to have a full week this week obviously we got kibosh a bit because of the weather so hopefully it’s a little bit kinder towards us and have a full week training and re establish some of the way we want to play and re establish some of the requirements of what we need from the players and staff and look we’ve still got some games in hand but you can’t expect to win them if you are not putting the performances in.” View the full article
  12. Following Bury 4-3 defeat away at Lower Breck defender Gaz Peet spoke to the club giving us his thoughts on Saturday’s game. Gaz Peet: “I mean to get to this point of the season undefeated was unbelievable I think the lads have worked hard and are disappointed with today. It’s I think the manner of the goals we conceded we’re great and I don’t even remember the last time we give so many chances away to a team and it was just one of them days and we’ve had too many of them this season and I know how good this group is so we won’t have many more.” Gaz then talked us through the last 10 minutes of the match saying: “We’ve got quality all over the pitch so when you’ve got lads at the top end of the pitch who can give you that little bit extra so it’s not surprising, it would’ve been nice if we didn’t concede the fourth in the way we did and that just gave us too much to do and yeah it’s not surprising we got back into the game we just did it too late and in the end I know we had a couple chances where we could’ve got a point but the lads tried and they left everything out there on the pitch but first half let us down a little bit.” Gaz then finished the interview by giving the fans a message ahead of next weekends match, he said “I mean this groups got something I’ll tell you that, it’s a great group and they’ve got quality everywhere so get yourself down again and I’m pretty sure we can turn everything around I mean its not even all that it’s one loss and we’ve got plenty more to come and this won’t define our season losing away to Lower Breck so stick behind us and support us.” View the full article

  16. We can confirm the departure of striker Andy Briggs, who has signed for West Didsbury & Chorlton. Following a seven-day approach by West, Andy informed the management of his wish to leave the football club. The 26-year-old joined the Shakers in July 2023 from Steeton, and made 33 appearances for the club last season, scoring 25 goals. He made a further 12 this season and has also had a spell with Widnes on dual-registration. We’d like to wish Andy all the best for the future. View the full article
  17. The first of three successive away games provides the Shakers with one of the toughest challenges of our season so far. Lower Breck are among the top teams in the league, and look certain to be among those scrapping for the promotion places come April. So they will be keen to end our unbeaten run of 21 games. The Shakers go into the challenge having had a week to reflect on our outstanding 8-0 home win against Longridge Town and extra training to further boost the skills on view in that game. Strong in defence, dynamic in midfield and relentlessly threatening up front: we certainly looked the real deal. Lower Breck also come into this game with a great win fresh in their minds. 5-0 at home against Glossop North End, who we know are no push-overs. And they also will have had a week off, because a frozen pitch scuppered their mid-week away fixture against FC Helens in the Macron Cup second round. Our next match at Gigg Lane will be against Colne on Saturday December 7. After Lower Breck we travel to Burscough a week later and Litherland REMYCA on December 4. Plenty of miles for our travelling fans – but all the players really value your backing, and so does everyone at the club. So please keep going for it!! In Opposition – Lower Breck Lower Breck are currently fourth in the league table – two places behind us, with 46 points from 25 games against our 49 from 21. They have won three and drawn two of their last six games. Formed 14 years ago as a youth team, they play at the Anfield Sports Community Centre. They later joined the Lancashire County Premier League second division, were promoted to the NWCFL in 2019, and went up into the Premier Division in 2021. Tickets Click here to purchase your ticket. 19. We can confirm the departure of winger, Iyrwah Gooden, who has joined Bradford Park Avenue. The 24-year-old joined the club in the summer after leaving NCEL champions Emley. He made 25 appearances for the Shakers, scoring five goals, including a debut goal against Squires Gate in July. Manager, Dave McNabb commented: “I’d like to wish Iyrwah the very best of luck at Bradford PA. A great player and an even better person. His smile, character and personality will be hugely missed by all staff and players. Good luck mate.” Everyone at the club would like to wish Iyrwah all the best for the future. View the full article
  20. This home cup-tie provides us with a double benefit: we can give Under-23s players game time and have an extra training session before the tough fixture against high-flying Lower Breck on Saturday. It also gives fans a chance to get along to Gigg Lane to recall and celebrate our outstanding performance of the season. The stunning 8-0 home win against Longridge gave morale a massive boost right across the club. And there will now be no NWCFL game at Gigg Lane until we entertain Colne on Saturday December 7. The match at Lower Breck will be followed by games at Burscough a week later and Litherland REMYCA on December 4. Meanwhile, we look forward to a great performance from the younger players after their experience at Abbey Hey in the Manchester Premier Cup five weeks ago. They were doing fine until they had a player sent off, and lost 4-2. In Opposition – Chadderton The clash with Chadderton was lined up back in June, when we were both awarded a bye in the draw for the first round. They started the league season strongly, but their form has dipped of late – four defeats in their last six matches. Nevertheless they’re still third in the table, with 47 points from 24 games compared with second-placed Shakers’ on 49 from 21 and top side Ramsbottom’s 53 from 24. On the Day & In the Ground This fixture will be pay on the gate only (cash / card), no advance tickets will be on sale. Blocks A to D in the Main Stand will be open for this fixture, with entry via the turnstiles for the Main Stand. The arrangements in this regard are to manage the stewarding costs for this game only, with a smaller than usual crowd anticipated. A main stand kiosk will be open serving hot food and drinks, with the bar in Starkies Lounge open when the ground opens at 6.30pm. Admission charges are: Adults – £5, 16-18-year-olds – £3, Under 16’s – £1. Match Coverage & Live Stream If you are unable to make it to the action at Gigg Lane, we’ll have all the live coverage across our media platforms. 25. It wouldn’t be surprising if Longridge Town come to Gigg Lane fired up with determination to take revenge for the 5-1 defeat we inflicted on them last month, when they visit Gigg Lane this weekend. It was a score that perhaps flattered the Shakers back in October, conceding three penalties in the game but after overcoming that storm and Mitch Allen saving two of the penalties, the result was empthatic in the end. Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw against Charnock Richard proved that we won’t have it all our own way as we look to assume top spot in the league, and with three draws in the last four at home manager Dave McNabb will be looking of more of type of finishes supplied by second-half substitute Alex Cherera. After a difficult first half, we were lucky to be only 1-0 down to lively Charnock Richard and were rescued by an unforgettable solo goal from our startlet Cherera on 71 minutes. Check out the goal below on the highlights, as well as comment from Tim Lees and midfielder Cam Fogerty. The challenge now is to extend it to 21 games. So once again we need lots of fans and plenty of noise to help us that run going. So come fans, and come on you Shakers!!! You can relive all the action from Tuesday and hear post match reaction from Tim Lees and Cam Fogerty below. In Opposition – Longridge Town It’s not been a good season so far for Longridge. They’ve lost their last two matches – at home against Glossop North End and away to South Liverpool – and are 16th in the table with 27 points from 22 matches. Longridge were promoted from the NWCFL’s Division One to the Premiership in 2019, but their first two seasons were curtailed by the Covid-19 pandemic. They then turned down the chance of playing in the Northern Premier League. Lee Ashcroft – still their manager – explained: “We’re not ready… We’ve got to establish ourselves at this level for the next two or three years, maybe longer.” Last season they finished 19th. They drew 1-1 at Gigg Lane and we beat them 2-1 in the return fixture.
