  1. Our 2024 Bury Football Club Golf Day took place last Friday, and another successful event was laid on with the golfing experts (& some novices!) taking to the course for a day of competition and fun. Fore! The team including the ex-Bury legends tee-off on the Bury Football Club Golf Day 2024 The event raised over £2,500 for the club on a sunny day at Pike Fold Golf Club. The course was in superb condition, matching the tremendous autumnal weather and had guests from 360 Vehicle Management Ltd taking the main prize, with a Stableford score of 99 after 18-holes. We were delighted to welcome ex-Shakers Dean West, David Lee and Mark Patterson (shown right, l-r) on the event. In addition to the club funds raised, a kindly donated prize from Ageas for a box at the Royal Albert Hall to watch Cirque du Soleil raised a magnificent £1,000 which was donated to the Len Johnrose Trust. The club wishes to place on record its thanks to the organising commitee, led by Mike Bailey, who worked so hard to put this event on. We also wish to thank all of our generous sponsors and raffle prize donors who contributed to the success of the day. We can’t wait to invite everyone back in 2025. If you would like to join us next year, please get in contact by emailing our commercial department, on commercial@buryfc.co.uk. View the full article

  6. We are pleased to share that within the last week, we have received an email from Manchester FA with some positive feedback regarding clear improvements in supporter behaviour that we are experiencing at Gigg Lane and at visiting grounds. CEO Neil Sears said “It has been well documented that we have had some challenges with regards to disciplinary charges. We have communicated with all our key stakeholders within the game and shown a desire as a club to take active steps to manage the situation and improve our reputation and profile as a club. This has been recognised by the Manchester FA, who appreciate the progress that is being made. “In reaching this milestone, my thanks go to our supporters for their exemplary behaviour both home and away during the season. We hope that these positive developments alongside our ongoing community engagement work will help us in our ambition to create a family-friendly environment in which all supporters of all backgrounds feel welcome and safe when attending our matches”. 7. We are delighted to launch our new ‘Partner Programme’, this will replace the traditional sponsorship approach that we have taken previously. The new programme will see local and national businesses welcomed into a network of like-minded companies, benefitting from an association with our proud football club. Businesses will benefit from a package of rights aimed to meet specific commercial objectives, and becoming a partner provides businesses with more than just exposure, it will create a relationship between the club, your business and the wider community. Bury FC – Partner ProgrammeDownload CEO Neil Sears said “We are delighted to take a bold new step into the world of business partnerships. This new programme allows a tiered system which has a set of commercial rights attached and from an entry level position to a more established position can be sought within the football club. It’s an exclusive programme with only a certain number of spaces available. “However, it’s important to note that we still will have places for businesses that want to advertise in the established way, as before. We will now begin the process of contacting our current sponsors to see if they wish to be migrated across before we continue to speak with new partners. “I would like to place my thanks on record to all sponsors who have supported the football club so generously as we make our way back up the football pyramid”. Our first partner will be announced in the coming days, with our commercial team working hard to secure more deals. If you’re interested in becoming a partner with Bury Football Club, please email commercial@buryfc.co.uk. View the full article

  12. There is no respite for the Shakers and the games keep coming! We follow our cracking 3-0 Emirates FA Cup victory at Blyth Spartans on Saturday by taking on local rivals Ramsbottom United at the Harry Williams Stadium in Rammy on Tuesday evening (kick-off 7.45pm). At Blyth, second-half goals from Alex Cherera, Bebeto Gomes and Connor Pye saw off a team who have previously enjoyed many Cup successes and laid to rest a nearly 30-year-old ghost, by avenging Spartans two-nil victory at Gigg Lane in the same competition in 1995. Highlights and post-match review is available on our YouTube channel (links below) The victory extends our unbeaten run to 14 games in all competitions. We are currently sixth in the North-West Counties Premier Division, having won six out of nine matches and drawn three. The fact that we have played only nine games puts us at a short-term disadvantage compared with the clubs above us when it comes to the table – including The Rams, who are currently top with 26 points from 13 games. We played Ramsbottom twice last season in the final flurry of matches which saw us narrowly miss promotion. We won 2-1 at home and drew 0-0 away, having earlier knocked them out of the Macron Cup with a win on penalties at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium in November. It’s an early season top of the table clash and a derby at that! Full information is available below. In Opposition – Ramsbottom United Last season, the Rams finished 18th in the table, with 50 points from 46 matches. But they come into the game against Bury not only top-of-the-league with eight wins already, but also fresh from a 6-0 win at Burscough on Saturday. Manager Steve Wilkes has seen a turnaround in fortunes at the club following that disappointing season last time out. They go into this first local derby with the Shakers in fine form and will be looking to come out on top in the league for the first time, after a defeat and draw last season. Oumar Camara and Luke Sephton look to be the ones to watch, both with six-goals each so far this term. As well as Saturday’s heavy scoreline at Burscough, they have also dispatched the same team 4-0 earlier in the season, as well as defeating early pace-setters, FC St Helens and more recently, Padiham at the Ruby Civil Arena. We head to the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium named after their owner, Harry Williams, who was on the committee which set up the club in 1966. They started life in the Bury Amateur League with Harry as manager – a position he held for 19 years. They later played in the Bolton Combination and the Manchester League before becoming a part-time professional club in the North-West Counties League in 1996. Progression through into the Northern Premier League followed under the tutelage of joint-managers Bernard Morley and Anthony Johnson from 2009, something that Chris Wilcock continued when in position from 2017 with chances to progress further slipping through the fingers in sometimes unfortunate circumstances. Wilcock left for rivals at the time, Workington Town, in 2021 and the club was then relegated back into the NWCFL for the start of the 2023-24 season. 17. Following yesterday’s terrific 3-0 win away at Blyth Spartans in the Second Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup, we will be entered into tomorrow’s (Monday 16th) draw for the next round. The draw is completed by 1pm and we will have this with you as soon as we have it. Another goal from FA Cup star Alex Cherera, made is six in four games for the young wide-striker, before Bebeto Gomes and a first in Bury yellow for Connor Pye were enough to seal our passage in this year’s competition. The next tie is due to take place on the weekend of the 28th September, so our fixture with FC St Helens due to take place then will be rescheduled for a later date. More details to follow after the draw. View the full article
  18. We’d like to place on record our thanks to Macauley Wilson, who has departed the club today by mutual consent. Macauley joined us from Bamber Bridge in the summer, with a wealth of experience. He made nine competitive appearances for the club, scoring once against AFC Liverpool. Living in the Blackpool area, he was travelling a distance to commute for training & matches and has car shared with fellow players who live in the area but given recent injuries to those players, it’s found Macauley in a difficult position to get to training and following discussions with Dave McNabb this week he has decided to depart Gigg Lane. Macauley had the following message for The Shakers fans. We would like to wish Macca all the best in the future. #BuryFC | #PartOfIt View the full article

  21. Bring it on! That’s the spirit in the camp as the Shakers face the long journey to the North East tomorrow to face Blyth Spartans in the FA Cup. Yes, they’re a club with a great history and in a higher league. But we have already seen off three teams from a higher division in earlier rounds and have nothing to fear. And another Yes – we struggled against Isle of Man last weekend. But that last kick draw with two of our players in the sin bin boosted morale on and off the pitch. And we go into this cup game on the back of a thoroughly professional 4-2 win at Glossop Town on Tuesday. The Glossop game proved the value of having a squad of players with strength in depth. Three changes enabled some to be rested and added fresh legs to a group of players who’d had a tough weekend. In Opposition – Blyth Spartans Despite a stunning history dating back to 1889, the Northumberland coastal town team are struggling in the Northern Premier League. They have won only one and drawn two of their eight games, and currently lie second to bottom. Getting through to this round of the cup was a struggle after they went one down in their Wednesday night home replay against Yorkshire amateur side Campion AFC. Blyth equalised in the second half, but the game went into extra time even after the Bradford team’s goalkeeper was shown a red card. They finally ran out 3-1 winners. The 1-1 draw in Bradford last Saturday was David Stockdale’s first match as interim manager. Afterwards, he said: “The main thing for me was the character that came out of it…Nobody is going to say it was a great performance, but it was a good performance in terms of character and determination, which is what I asked of them.” Stockdale has since been installed as permanent first team manager. 24. We’d like to provide an update on our Legends Wall. First of all, we’d like to thank all fans who sponsored a player from down the years. We’re currently working with our Heritage Committee to create the 15 history panels that will be interjected into the player panels, matching the relevant players to the correct era. Once designed we will publish each history panel and open these up for sponsorship. We’re hoping to launch the Legends Wall at our first home game in October. 25. Dave McNabb’s 50th game in charge of the Shakers came with late drama at the weekend, with a 1-1 draw away at FC Isle of Man. Ben Hockenhull equalised in the sixth minute of stoppage time, after Sean Doyle opened the scoring for the Ravens 11 minutes into the second half. The fans were in fine voice in the Manx’s capital, after hundreds made the trip across the Irish Sea for the second time this calendar year. Luckily with no delays this time! You can watch Dave McNabb’s post match interview following that last gasp point at the Douglas Bowl below. It’s the second away game of four in this run of fixtures. We head to Blyth at the weekend and then Ramsbottom, but focus for now is on Glossop North End. Full information is available below. In Opposition – Glossop North End The club was founded in 1886 and joined the North Cheshire League four years later. Glossop spent two seasons each in The Combination and the Midland League, before moving to North Road and being elected into the Football League Second Division in 1898. Having been promoted in the 1898–99 season, they spent one season in the First Division. During this period the club was bankrolled by Sir Samuel Hill-Wood, who was later to become chairman of Arsenal. The club retains some connections with Arsenal. Glossop were relegated in 1900 and spent the next fifteen seasons in the Second Division, before exiting the Football League during World War I. Post-war, they spent 1920 to 1957 in the Manchester League, being crowned champions in 1927–28. They moved from the Lancashire Combination back to the Manchester League in 1966, and then spent four seasons in the Cheshire County League from 1978 before the North West Counties was formed in 1982 in which Glossop were founder members, they had a 33-year stint in the league before winning the Premier Division title at the end of the 2014–15 campaign. They were beaten finalists in the FA Vase in 2009 and 2015. In April 2023 GNE were relegated from Step 4 after a period of eight years, ending manager Stuart Mellish’s two-year stint at the helm. Michael Worthington was appointed as manager in the summer of 2023 as the Hillmen head into their first season back in the NWCFL. Last season they finished 21st in the table – won 11, drawn 10, lost 25. Both Bury & Glossop won their respective league home game last season.
